SRS - My anti drug

#1
Once I started using Anki a bit more seriously I started to get scared of how alcohol and marijuana would affect my memory, and now I've quit both altogether. I wasn't addicted to either (I did smoke everyday, but getting over that is too easy to call it an addiction), but I didn't have hesitations about using them by myself. Now every time I feel like having a drink or a smoke I just worry about how it might mess up what I've learned today (as I type this now there's a few liters of liquor literally right behind me). I've never had problems with school so I guess this is the first time I've really wanted to remember something.

Anyone else have second thoughts about drinking just from fear of facing your srs the next morning?

I seriously doubt that either of those drugs, in moderation, would really impair your studies.

However, doing either of them every single day is a bit much. Getting high or drinking once or twice a week is not gonna mess up your studies.

Getting drunk helps my Japanese--Japanese office parties would be way worse without alcohol, and I wouldn't be nearly as talkative without it.

True.
I actually speak better when I drink.
Memory loss related to alcohol is really for addicts (heavy daily use), but I know marijuana has a much more impairing effect on memory (from experience), so I guess you were right to quit. Alcohol is more like a moral impairer (hangovers).
You can still re-start tomorrow.
And as Tza said, a little recreative social consumption at the weekends cannot do much harm.

I think it's great that you've found something meaningful and satisfying enough to replace using drugs and/or alcohol. Improving oneself is much more satisfying than getting high or drunk. Not to mention the money you will save...

Although perhaps a good idea to avoid oxidation of your brain cells, it'll cause hypoxia and acidosis which are not any better, to say the least ;)

I must say I agree with you, quincy, that alcohol doesn't help the reps at all.. but then, everything in moderation.

I think I got lung cancer from walking by a reeking group of sidewalk smokers outside a non-smoking public building recently.

The problem is my breathing is so powerful. Ever seen Enter the Dragon? When Bruce Lee got knocked down, that was from me breathing yesterday.

/new 'meme'

No wait I think I got it wrong. I'm supposed to play up how awesome Bruce Lee is.
