rikaichan like app for iphone?

#26
Reading this thread, I just downloaded "Rikai Browser Free" to try out, and get similar results to juniperpansy in reply #21.

There's a partly-obscured rectangle near the bottom left of the screen that changes occasionally, but often says ダウンロード (the ダ is mostly missing). Download what though? Is it some unrelated advert, or maybe an essential part of the app that needs to be downloaded from the Internet to make it work? I don't like to click download buttons without an idea of what I'm downloading.

I can't get the rikai function to work at all. The blue selection box appears ok, and when tapping it a "copy/rikai" bubble appears, but touching the "rikai" button just makes it go away again – nothing else happens.

Incidentally for several minutes even the rikai button stopped appearing; I eventually realized this depended on the setting of the walking man icon in the top bar.

Hi Katsuo,

Thanks for your feedback. Are you also on a iPod Touch or an iPhone?

The "Walking Man" enables and disable AutoRikai. When he is running, the Rikai box will pop up as soon as you highlight a word on the page, allowing you to run your finger along a sentence and the meanings / readings will pop up for each word as they are selected.

The catch for AutoRikai is that once you dismiss the Rikai box, we won't Rikai the same word again until you select another something else. This prevents the Rikai box from popping up over and over again for the same word.

If AutoRikai is off (the little man is walking), tap the "Rikai" button next to Copy after you select a word to display meanings / readings.

Selecting a word in the Rikai box itself and then clicking Rikai will not re-Rikai. It is a bug that the Rikai appears at all in this case and I'll add that to be fixed in a future version.

The ダウンロード box you are seeing is likely an advertisement. The free version includes ads. It should be centered on the page or take up the entire width, with an X that you can tap to dismiss it for a short period if it's in the way. We also have a paid version which is ad free, but is waiting on Apple's approval for that to be available on the App store for iPhone & iPod Touch.

The app is delivered feature complete, so you do not need to download anything extra to use it.

Thanks for trying Rikai Browser. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Our main support site is available from here: http://longweekendmobile.com/contact

Thanks for the reply.

I followed your instructions but in both cases (man walking/running) the rikai window doesn't pop up like in this page.

I'm using an iPod Touch with the latest iOS.

Right, time to retire (it's 3 am in Tokyo).

Katsuo,

I just got my hands on an iPod Touch 4G running iOS 4.2.1. I can confirm that there are issues ... Sad We're going to have to work on this and release a new version that works on this device as well. It's unusual to find such deviation between iOS devices (it had been tested on an iPod Touch 3G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4..), but now that we can duplicate the problem we can fix it.

Thanks for trying it out though - we are trying to make this Awesome on the smaller screen of the iPhone/iPod Touch. It's hard to fit everything in there...

For what it's worth, it works like it's supposed to on my iPhone 4, with the latest iOS.

Yep, I sent you the requested information. After looking at 'Rikai Browser' in the app store again... I noticed that the pictures are nowhere even close to what I downloaded. So it appears that an old beta version of the program was probably uploaded to the app store accidentally instead of the proper version.

An update: a new version of Rikai Browser Free has been added to the App Store which fixes the iPod Touch problem. Thanks for your interest and we hope you enjoy the product.

Rikai Browser, our paid version without ads is also available for iPhone, iPod, and iPad at this time.

Thanks again and good luck on your Japanese Study.

Your pictures don't work but... you do realize this thread is about the rikai browser and not the wakaruapp, right?
in the wakaru app, does it also work when i am playing a song on my ipod and the lyrics show up? can I select some words in the lyrics and have wakaru show me the meaning?
