Just started again ..

And hopefully I'll muster the discipline to finish it this time.
I got to around 1550 the last time, but then I lost all motivation and stopped reviewing.

I'll be leaving for Japan in January as an exchange student, I'd like it if I could finish RTK 1 by then.
My proposed plan is to do learn 20 kanji a day minimum, more if possible + reviewing them on this site.
So I'll do 140 a week minimum regardless of how many I did the previous week, and then reset this number each week, so I don't get "lazy" because I'm "ahead of schedule".
I started last Monday, and I'm at 236 now, doing the first time review I got 232 correct, not too bad I guess. Got a few wrong due to small mistakes, so I put them as "fail" to restudy them carefully and make sure I get them correctly next time.

Will post updates on my progress, mostly as another source of motivation for myself.
If I don't post, it probably means I failed again.

Good luck to you!
At this pace, you should be over way before January (you'll keep remembering as you'll get going), but don't burn out. Don't forget to do some assimil too (3 months course).
Or why not focusing on RTK lite? This way you could have more time for learning to speak listen read...

If you've done them before, it'll be a breeze to relearn them (or so I've heard)

Thanks for the encouragement. Did around 50 today and refinished lesson 13, and up to 299 now. I don't know the other methods you speak of, but I do practice speaking/reading etc. in class and through homework, so I got enough on my palette for now.

zachandhobbes: Yep, even though I actively study Japanese through reading and the like, I was surprised that many of the English keywords from this method from years ago actually stuck, and I could recall the actual characters somewhat easily.
So some of the stories that I made up must have been pretty effective after all.
What made me quit last time was because I was going at a pretty high rate, at my best I was doing around 90 characters a day, and it turned a bit too much into a chore rather than something to look forward to and I lost motivation.
Making up stories for them for the first time is a lot harder than recalling them like this now, so I'm sure my pace will slow down again once I get to the kanji I haven't learned yet.
So this time I'm taking it a bit slower, and hope I can keep up the numbers I've set for myself.

I also just did this.

...I was somewhat annoyed when people already knew loads of kanji and were like, "yeah, I'm doing 100/day," like they were starting from scratch, so if you're already familiar with them, at least double that. You'll have to more than triple it before I'll be impressed with your cramming abilities, though.

~RTK 1 and 3 in 15 days, and hadn't written any kanji this year until now. Wewt.

EDIT: I just realized that I have written this same thing like three times now. I will now stop posting about this and get it done.

Up to 439 now, which means I did 207 kanji this week.
Maybe I'll finish the rest of lesson 18 later today, since it's a pretty long lesson (80 kanji).

Reviewing is going OK as well.
I add the cards I studied and review them after a few days when they aren't still fresh in my memory.
I reviewed around 150 kanji today, and missed 4 of them.
Mostly somewhat obscure kanji to me, such as Reed, that has the "fire" element in its entirety on the right side, which is rare.
And I also made a mistake on the keyword for Jewel as Pearl.
And the one for Pagoda, which I've never seen used anywhere, got it confused with Tea, so I gotta build up the story for these better in order to memorize them properly.

Edit: 450.

Edit 2: decided to do a few more before bed, and got to 475 and finished this lesson!

Didn't really do anything yesterday (the slacking begins ..), but I did all the reviews from yesterday and today this morning, and added 21 new cards just now.

Reviews were around 180 cards (add many cards fast = many reviews), and I got them all except one, so that went well. Messed up with the keywords for Treasure and Wealth.
When I get something wrong it's usually that I mistake similar keywords, and not that I don't know how to write a kanji.
So I gotta work on making better distinction in my stories for these particular words.

Total number of cards is 539 now, I intend to do at least 20 more later today when I'm back from class, to make up for the slacking yesterday.

Wasn't at home in the weekend ..and didn't do anything until yesterday evening.
Finished the reviews of all the cards that were piled up (around 350), and missed about 10 of them. Not as good as previously, but many of them were somewhat obscure (for me) cards that I've never seen used in real life. Still somewhat OK considering the recall rate is above 96%.

Did 21 cards today, and intending to do more later this day, to make up for the lost days.

Total amount of cards is 583 now.

Up to 769 now, guess I've been in a studious mood this weekend.
I did 42 cards today, and finished up the really long lesson with 130 characters.
Maybe I'll do a bit more later in the evening if I got the energy for it.

Reviews are going OK too, only a few mistakes, if any.

頑張って!

If you need motivation, you could take a screenshot of the review page each week. Actually and concretely seeing your progress is fun and rewarding.

^Thanks.

I like checking to see the progress chart in the review section, seeing all those filled green bars makes me feel good. Smile

As for update, haven't done much this week, partially because I had no internet.
But I did make up for it somewhat, since I did around 50 cards yesterday, and ~50 again today, making the total 909.

And since I didn't get to review for several days, together with the old pile of "new" cards, I had to do around 300. The good thing was that actually got 100% this time, usually my recall rate is between 96-99%, so getting 100% on 300+ cards definitely felt good too. Smile

Been awhile since I posted here, since I've been rather busy.
Haven't had much time/motivation to add more cards, so I'm a bit behind my schedule of 20/day minimum, and at least 140 per week, which I didn't reach in the last 2 or 3 weeks.

The total right now is 1195, so while I am a bit behind, I still did have a fair amount of progress.
Reviews are going OK though, pretty much always above 95%.

Since I'm studying for exams right now I don't really have a lot of time to add RTK cards too, but in a few weeks I'll have a quiet period again, where I hope to catch up on adding cards.
