I'm back!

How's it going peeps? It's been a while (2 months 14 days to be precise) since I've been here or studied any nihongo.

Wonder if icecream has found her perfect job / career yet? is ta12121 still talking about how many months/days/hours its been since he started learning Japanese "properly"? I'm curious as to whether Nukemarine has finally stuck at one learning method and achieved fluency.

Anyway now to catch up on old threads and 700+ kanji reviews..it's so good to be home Smile

Haha, I'm in the same situation. My summer was 99% Japanese-free and I just came back to this forum.
I have 2500+ due cards in Anki (but I'm really not worried about that, I just suspended everything and I will slowly catch up a little bit every day).

Reviews are actually going ok! I remember most of my stories (yay to the Heisig method) - I just cant remember how to write primatives. 50 / 50 pass to fail so far, not bad..

Haven't been got the motivation to tackle the Heisig yet tho :$

lol thanks for mentioning me.I haven't made another thread yet but I've toned the hours/months things down+my stats. I've learned it doesn't really matter much, well only to me but in the long run it just matters what types of things you can do in japanese vs you cannot do. But if your wondering, it's been 1 year+ now.

I don't think I could take not doing kanji throughout the Summer. XD

Anki says I have 1600 kanji to review (out of 2042 total) in the next 2.5 months.

No wondering about me? I see how it is. I'll just go curl up in my corner and cry while eating a carton of icecream.

...yep, I have a corner Big Grin

I take breaks for a day or two every once in a awhile but I don't think I could ever not do any type of Japanese review for such a long period of time, even if I'm not adding new material. I start to put myself down after not doing Japanese because even if I'm busy as all hell there's no reason (other than laziness) that I can't squeeze 30 mins a day minimum to get my reviews done. I'm a masochist, though.

Your avatar makes this post undeniably dirty.

I haven't studied in 4 days. Well at least not "consciously" Rolleyes

Reasons for taking a break from studying:
- left uni
- went on holiday
- started internship
- got a steady girlfriend (not Japanese!)
- Moved house

Really though, it boils down to laziness..

Don't worry, I remember you (nihonjin, ridiculously good at English, don't believe in Remembering the Kanji method..), just I didn't have anything particularly quirky / insulting to say about you. Anyway how's the private tuition going?

Blimey, you actually did it - amazing!! Congrats!

So what was Japan and Japanese university life like? Did your Japanese language skills hold up?? Hoping you make a blog or forum post about your experience, cos I seriously want to hear about it..

aaah so cool! that forum thread is just so grin-inducing; now I totally remember why I started learning Japanese! thanks, really inspirational..

Report seems to be the wrong one though, unless your J-name is Michiko Fujisawa

IceCream Wrote:How's your internship? What're you doing? Are you still in london then? Why isn't your gf japanese! Wink
- Fun!
- Writing games that are controlled by the users brainwaves.
- Still in London, but moving around (oh the life of a Camelot property guardian)
- It just happened! She's Taiwanese btw, and she now wants me to learn mandarin; doh..

omgomg how does that work?? I could really seriously use that for finding cool stuff out about chimpanzees!!! Have you got any that work decently yet?? Tell me more!!!!!!!!!
We're using this headset; it's basically a consumer EEG machine:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeuroSky

Basically it can tell how relaxed the user is, how much they're concentrating on something and whether they've blinked or not. It works fairly well. No idea if it works on monkeys, but would be amazing to find out!! seriously!!

IceCream Wrote:lol Mandarin. gl with that!! but you do have the perfect environment to learn it, at least speaking! And Taiwan is wicked!! They also have conbini type things. And they burn pretend money outside shops every month for the gods. And "it started with a kiss" is one of my favorite dramas, you can learn lots of mandarin from it!!! Big Grin
Mandarin doesn't have the rich culture of manga and video games though; I want to stick to Japanese, but she's not happy Sad

Anyway reviews are coming down to a managable level, I feel renewed..!
