kindle for pc

Here's another n00b question. I'm tired and fed up with typing out notes for my paperbacks/etc., and found an ebook of the book I'm comprehensively note-taking with (adding notes to Anki), but it's on Amazon as a Kindle book. I take it I can't just buy it and start copy/pasting notes from it? Any hypothetical tips?

You can just buy it on Kindle and start copy/pasting. Before you do so, what's the book? I might know a guy...

That's a secret, but trust me, I know all the guys you know and they don't have it. ;p

I tried a sample and you can't copy/paste with it, and I get the impression most of Amazon's books are DRM'd like that, but I shall purchase it regardless because at least it'll be in a format I can finesse and suchlike.

Ahh actually in the Mac version you can't select, but on the actual kindle you can, then you can grab a file of highlighted text over usb.

If you download the book to your pc, you can then use google and topazscripts to remove the DRM and convert it, so you can use the content you purchased as you choose.

Save screen content or highlight with SnagIt 10 and save as pdf file.

Japanese pdf File can be OCR´d with ReadIris 11 and saved to Word etc.

A random internet stranger told me that they hypothetically tried clicking and dragging and hitting 'search', then copy/pasted the resulting text (which appears in the search box). This caused a runtime error but they were still able to copy the desired text before closing. I told them that this sort of circumvention is very wrong and that I would never do such a thing.

ReadIris does Japanese text? Have you used it yourself?

There's an Asian edition, we've cryptically reviewed it on the forum, but the summary is: It's OK but not that great. Plan on lots of little corrections.
