Because what you have is the Tanaka Corpus, and it's got a lot of mixed reviews.

Check Asriel's post. Tanaka corpus is not what you think it is.

If you want the latest version of those sentences, you should head over to http://www.tatoeba.org

It is still a very useful resource for getting many example sentences for unknown vocabulary. I have it bookmarked for teaching English to students.

This might be just me, but I find that decks of sentences and vocab are good when you already know what they mean, i.e. they are actually just a review. It feels like half the learning process is in making the deck.

For this reason I don't use other peoples pre-built decks. Its annoying as hell for me to find something in a deck review that I just haven't studied before.
