I just finished RtK3 (not the readings) thread, please congratulate me

Seriously, am I the only one who was missing this particular topic?
As I'm sure many of you have done, I've skipped the RtK2 (after trying it once) and went straight on to RtK3. After pausing for weeks at a time (sometimes months, as was the case with RtK1) and subsequently having to relearn long lists of failed Kanji, today I've finally added the last flashcard.

And I must say, it feels great. Granted, it will take a few months of continuous reviewing to really nail all the new Kanji into my memory. But even now my reviews have about 95% success rate, even with the new Kanji. And after months of looking at that ugly red bar, the all-green forest looks just beautiful Smile

That concludes my sentimental mumbling. As for my immediate plans, in December I intend to take the JLPT N3 exam. So I have some 4 months to stuff all the required kanji readings, compounds and vocab into my head. If I can find some useful wordlilsts, that is.
After that, I'm hitting some reading study method hard - be it RtK2, Kanji Odyssey, Kanjichains, or something else entirely, I haven't decided yet.
I have some manga in japanese, and I'm currently looking into getting my hands on some books too, so my goal for next year will be to finally gain reading capabilities. After that, there will be no stopping me ]:->

I'd wish all of you still struggling with RtK1 good luck, but we all know luck has nothing to do with this. So I wish you diligence, preseverance, patience, and if you ever fall behind, the mental strength to review, relearn, and continue.
See you on the flipside.

congratulations ! to have the patience to continue from RTK1 to RTK3 I admire it. I was sick of making silly stories when I finished RTK1 about a month ago, and wanted to start learning Japanese. But for people to do RTK3 takes much discipline. Congratulations again.

you might be the only one, there's actually another thread in the RTK Vol. 2&3 section of the forums that is doing exactly what you are doing.

Here's the link!

oh. That's why I didn't find it, I searched the forums for the word 'congratulate' in topic subject. Thank you both.

Congratulations.

I finished RTK3 a few months back. One thing I've come to realise is that RTK is like a crutch to provide support while you begin to immerse yourself in Japanese. It allows you to hold many kanji in your head at once making reading and writing so much easier. Since finishing, I haven't had time to do much studying other than my RTK reviews. Around the time of finishing RTK3 I was getting review scores of around 90% and I assumed that, without having to had new cards, this score would steadily rise. But although I sometimes get 95% or more, I often get much less - sometimes around 70%. What happens is the stories gradually fade (as I guess they should) so I often forget mature cards about to pass into box 8. However, I tend to easily remember kanji I encounter in contexts outside of RTK through reading. What I'm trying to say is, don't worry if, a few months down the line, you start to fail some of your mature cards. If they're ones you're not encountering in some context other than RTK, I think that's probably normal.

I think it's good to keep up reviews in either RevTK or some other SRS for a while at least. For how long I'm not sure.

I'm glad you enjoyed your RTK3 journey. I did too. Some of the kanji are pretty obscure but many of them will be encountered in the wild. As time goes by, you can always choose to forget (or at least stop srs-ing) ones which never crop up.
