This is not a bashing of anki so please not flaming.
I belive that srsing should be done this way:
first you learn a scentence
after about 5 seconds you should restudy it
after about 10 more seconds you should restudy it
after about 15 more seconds you should restudy it
after about 30 more seconds you should restudy it
after about 1 minute you should restudy it
after about 2 minute you should restudy it
after about 5 minute you should restudy it
and so on and so on.
That is how I learned some vocabulary. If you forget, then lower your interval from your current interval and then increase it again, however, in anki even if you fail several times and finaly choose "hard" it will schedule the card few hours or even days later. This kind of worries me and I'm not sure if this will actually work. I like the this site's system better.
Another thing is that I sometimes remember the kanjis in a sentence not by actually remembering it but by remembering what the meaning of the sentence is, so if I see the same word written in kanji elsewhere I don't recognize it.
Anyway guys your tips and opinions are welcome.

My anki deck has nearly 12500 cards in it -- doing it your way would give me a million reviews a day.
The amount of times it pops up in Anki is much more efficient, as I still remember the meaning of most the things in the deck, whilst not spending so much time reviewing that I'm unable to learn new things.

We'll lets say I added a new sentence and first few 4 or 5 reviews I failed but on the next one I remembered very fast (there were only few minutes between reviews) if I select "good" or or "easy" it will reschedule the card for 5 or even 7 days by that time I will forget it already.

The thing is that in the last 2 days I added like 750 sentences most of them I don't even remember what they mean anymore (grammar things like "did", "was done on something", "make some one do something", etc') and now it's a blur, I don't remember some of the meanings of the sentences.

Do you guys think I should delete the deck and start a fresh one, only this time add less cards each day? Or just add as much as I can and let anki decide when to review them?

How does the answer side of you cards look like ?
Do you add grammatical explanations, literal + non-literal translations, anything else?

I'm lazy with SRS (that is, I'll be enthusiastic about it for a couple of weeks and then take a couple of months off from it). A word that I've studied for a couple weeks with Anki has about a 90% chance of being in my memory permanently even after I stop reviewing. So, works for me!

I don't do sentences, but lean the individual vocabulary in learning mode algorithm on my ipod touch, then transfer them the next day into my regular anki deck. At this point they are pretty well "learned" and the base algorithm works just fine. I usually do 20-30 words per day, some days 0, and do a few different learning sessions through out my day. On average it takes me about an hour to do these learning reviews, but they are spread out (riding the bus, walking the dog, between classes, etc.). So far this is working really well for me. I still may fail the cards down the road, but they have a good foothold.

I asked myself the very same questions. When you put let's say a vocab card into the srs(anki). Initially you won't know how to read it, you should know kanji meanings from doing RTK. After a few reps it will be in your short-term memory, until the interval increases and it will land into your long-term memory. There are other factors as well, like reading outside of the srs, immersion, etc.
It may feel like your not learning, but eventually everything will make sense. I used to think that, if I didn't decode it 100% i wouldn't understand it. But my problem was I was still in the beginner phrase, so it didn't really matter. It just takes time for it to be in your memory/learned.

Yeah I decided to keep using anki I know it will help me, and about vocabulary vs. sentences, the bigger your vocabulary the easier it will be for you to move to sentences, however if you only do vocabulary it will take more time to get used to the language, doing sentences gives you a gut feeling, you just know that something sounds "right", you don't know why but you feel it. I used the (almost) full immersion (not to the extreme of what khatz did) with another language when I was younger without even knowing I'm doing it so I know it works, the thing is that I had fun I wasn't worried how far and wide my knowledge is, today I get so bored watching something without subtitles, or reading a manga in japanese, never being sure if I understand those parts that I can actually read.
Anyway this is too long of a post.
Also I decided to delete my old deck and add about 30 to 50 sentences a day, all of them n+1 so it shouldn't be much of a problem and ofcource do do revs every day.
