Anyone know anything about Oberlin College (桜美林大学) in Machida?

#1
I'm set to start my study abroad there this September but I've never really heard of the school (me living in Chicago and all). I asked my language exchange partner and my high school Japanese teacher about it and they give me the usual non-committal answers, though I got the feeling that there was something they weren't telling me (sorta like when my language partner told me he was moving to Detroit in a month and I didn't tell him it was a huge mistake.) Anyway, if anyone knows anything about it I'd really appreciate some info/forewarning.

They probably just haven't heard of it. I never have either, but that doesn't mean it's bad. There are many colleges in the US I've never heard of.

Is it a branch of the Oberlin college located in Ohio? Oberlin College in Ohio is a liberal arts school. If you're familiar with any liberal arts schools, I'm sure you know what that entails (hipsters, music/art on the grass, experimental pedagogy, progressive politics, etc.).

I studied abroad at Obirin for a year in 2003-2004. What kind of things do you want to know?

I didn't think there was anything bad about it and the program was really well run! I have been back to the campus lately and it seems like they have built it up quite a bit. I had a really really good time and my time there is some of my best memories of Japan. Try to ask them about scholarship opportunities and you might get a huge chunk of change (I did).

It's not -- there's some connection between them but as far as I can tell it's a very tenuous and perhaps only historical connection.

I knew some people who went there in an exchange program. I don't know much about it, but I don't think they had anything bad to say about it, and they generally enjoyed their experience.

There's not really a connection between the Ohio college and the Japanese campus. The founder of the Japanese school studied at Oberlin College in Ohio, and that's the only relationship.

It's also actually a christian college but you would never know it. The founder was christian and they have a church on campus, but that was about the extent of it that I found.
