For those that have received their iPhone 4, can anyone comment on
whether the "retina display" makes it much easier to read full-page manga.
Are the kanji much crisper and (more importantly) are they very readable even
in tiny print?
Thanks.

I don't have an iPhone, but I have trouble reading furigana with physical manga. I can't imagine how squishing that down to 1/4 of the size will help it remain legible no matter how magic the screen is.

The problem reading manga on the iPhone is because text in manga is often hard to read, and the scans aren't high enough quality. As wccrawford said, the retina display won't make a difference in most cases. If you can get high quality scans of high quality prints, those will look excellent on the iPhone 3Gs as well as the iPhone 4.

I wish some manga publishers would get on board now Apple are going for the whole e-book thing. Individual tap-to-progress コマ are better than the reading the real thing. There are a few old ones on the app store, like Appleseed and 猫ラーメン, but the res is terrible and doesn't make full use of the screen.
