Have just been using the search on twitter for example sentences / usage. Much more interesting than the dictionary.

Considering how Twitter messages usually look... yeah, not a good idea.

Probably a bad idea unless you're looking to tweet yourself. For starters Japanese twitter is loaded with it's own unique twitter grammar and twitter slang.

I want to eventually, but for now reading my friends will do. It's way more popular with my Japanese friends than from the UK, U.S etc

It's twitterese for "now".

There are several なう. A fun one is ナウ, a loanword from the english word "now", which can be used as a na-adjective to describe something as modern.

プランニングなう - I'm planning now
準備なお - I'm preparing now
仕事を離れるなう - I'm now leaving work
XBOXなう - I'm playing XBOX now
東京なう - I'm in Tokyo now

ETC, etc

Just remember not to talk like this. People(most) are going to think you're an idiot.

Also 中 (ちゅう) gets used a lot on twitter. But be careful not to overdo it in speech because it's pretty unique to Kochi prefecture.

何し中? - What are you doing now?
食べ中 - I'm eating

And so on.

haha if you talked like that you would be an idiot so fair call.

Not every message is in twitter speak tho and it's kinda easy to grasp what is normal and what isn't.

It might not be so easy. Something as big as this, sure, but in a language just using the wrong synonym in a situation can sound really unnatural, and that's definitely something someone who isn't fluent won't easily pick up, especially not from a message as short as a twitter message.
