devent Wrote:First of all I can't thank you enough for this awesome time-saving ingenious program!Another good suggestion. I'll try to get it into the next version.
I do have a suggestion though.
It would be nice to be able to number the example sentences according to what sub definition they belong to, making it easier to link them together.
That's all, can't think of anything else, that's how sweet this program is.

For the bold thing, why not add a hook that lets people insert html or rss or whatever they want kind of code around the target word? (Pre/post append text?)
I'm still crawling through my monstrous list of vocab generated from E2A. It would probably go faster if I had more time, but thanks again for the program. It's a lifesaver.
Probably.

Would it be possible to add an option for combining definitions, rather than disambiguating them, when the dictionary contains multiple entries for the same word? I'm indexing my Anki notes on lexemes, so I have to have homonyms on the same note (which is what I want anyway, since I'm training my reading skills). Just chaining the definitions together with a <br> between them (and the readings with a comma perhaps) would be great.

Can anyone recommend any solid dictionaries to buy? (Electronic of course and J-J). I can't seem to find it via certain means but I am willing to pay for it though. Pm if anyone can point me in the right direction(where to buy it from). Thanks in advance!

At the point in my studies (making vocab lists while I read novels) where this is the perfect tool. Just want to extend a thank you, once again, to CB. You've laid out great stepping stones.

CB4960,
You are a hero. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm going to be using this from now on. You are fantastic.

Ah, for some reason this isn't working for me now. I've made decks before with this but now it's not responding. I enter in a .txt file with a word list, each word on a separate line. The output is a tsv file. I'm using VMWare Fusion Windows on a Mac. I'm saving the output to shared folders. What could I be doing wrong?

This is an amazing tool, thank you so much! I'm not clear on how the automatic disambiguation works though. Does it go with the first (usually meaning the 'shortest') reading like it would be listed in EDICT, or do the J-J EPWING files contain relative frequency information, etc? I'm just curious how much I can trust its judgement. Still wanna reiterate how awesome this is though!

I'm just curious how much I can trust its judgement. Still wanna reiterate how awesome this is though!First, a basic check is performed that gives priority to entries that contain the most fields in the card layout. This priority scheme is used:
1) Reading, Definition, Example Sentences
2) Reading, Definition
3) Definition, Example Sentences
4) Definition
5) Reading, Example Sentences
6) Reading
For example an entry with a reading, definition, and example sentences is given priority over an entry with just a reading and definition.
If the example sentences are not in the card layout then only 2), 4) and 6) will be used.
Next, if multiple entries match the same criteria (for example, two or more entries have a reading, definition, and example sentences), then choose based on the following rules:
1) Entry with the largest definition.
2) Entry with the most example sentences (if examples are in card layout).
3) And if all else fails, choose the first entry.

Hey CB, Thanks for getting back. When I click 'create anki import deck' in Epwing2Anki the Progress window pops up but there is no activity in the box like Disambiguation. It just says 0 cards made out of however number of words submitted. I won't be home until very late tonight so I can try again then.

Click the "about" link in the lower-left of Epwing2Anki to get my email address.

Also I don't get where I'm supposed to find these EPWING files. I have a couple different programs that use various EPWING dictionaries, but no idea how to extract the catalogue. Extremely frustrating...
EDIT: I'm a silly goose, I hadn't formatted the cards properly. Forgot Anki won't import facts unless you have properly formatted cards already set up for them =\

@NinKenDo
It's not outputting because you lack EPWing dictionaries, i.e. input. If you PM, they will reply.

Without the proper EPWing dictionary files, you can't make any cards. Click the email hyperlink below my username so we may discuss where these dictionary files can be found.

Does anybody have recommendations for which Dictionaries to prioritise?

I haven't read through the thread, but does E2A use a different de-inflect/lookup method than JGlossator? I noticed that Epwing2Anki couldn't give results for certain words from JTAT's frequency report, stuff other tools don't have trouble with. I had a 'no results' for tobikomeru, for example, or kaeseru. Japanese turns into gibberish when I post here so I'm stuck with romaji, sorry.
I was also thinking that it would be nice to be able to import frequency reports more easily, similar to future versions of KWAT, but now I'm thinking, what if you combined JGlossator w/ Epwing2Anki, and you could do the normal list input, or just input a whole text or something. That might give more consistent results across tools.
Edit: This might also let you create example sentences from source texts, using a process of demarcation similar to Rikaisama's.
Mixing with the frequency numbers from JTAT could also be useful, so that Anki cards can be sorted by frequency, perhaps with further sorting on types of frequency numbers...
Of course, I'm aware that you're secretly building the modules for a mega-transformer program, where these tools will eventually combine into a monstrous titan, so who knows what form it will take, what powers it will have.
