how to utilize Japanese audio most efficiently?

#1
Clearly, there is an almost overwhelming variety of free, high-quality Japanese audio resources out there - podcasts, radio programs, and whatnot.

I'm curious as to what is the best way to "make use" of these audio resources. Is the goal primarily simply to maintain/improve familiarity with Japanese listening comprehension (just listening, repeating, and getting better this way through immersion, so to speak)? Or do you guys try to learn in a more active manner (dictation, looking up words, etc.)?

I'm at the JLPT N1 level, so a fair amount of comprehension is feasible, but in my experience, I don't really seem to learn anything "new" from listening to audio unless I also have access to a transcript, so I can look up new words and compare my comprehension to the transcript as a whole. For me, simply listening to audio is perhaps good just to get my ears used to hearing Japanese again, but that seems to be it. Basically, how do you guys make the most out of the Japanese audio resources out there, especially if there isn't a transcript already available?

Thanks for the advice guys!

Depends on your attitude toward learning.

There are some who SRS that stuff, and others (like me) who merely passively listen and attempt to make the most of it.

I will admit that I'm seriously considering SRS'ing a song or 2 to attempt to learn them better. I think I'll probably just stick to more normal methods of memorizing a song, and look up anything I forget along the way, though.
