Let there be light!

#1
So I am sitting in a rather comfortable hotel room in Mcleodganj, Northern India. It's 8 PM and the electricity shut down once again. I find myself once again in complete darkness, save for the light of laptop screen Smile

This happens often when there is a storm up in the mountain.

The whole town is now in darkness, save for traffic lights and most restaurants light candles, which creates a nice atmosphere.

I find it rather amusing that in the middle of this I can continue to surf the web thanks to the hotel generator Smile Internet SHALL NOT BE INTERRUPTED!!

The fan on the ceiling has stopped, but it started raining and there is some fresh wind, all is good! Woohoo! Big Grin

Hah, this happens in my house quite often, too. Stupid Florida power. But all my UPSes keep me up for quite some time. Big Grin

Interesting! I never thought about these generators when in Belgium. Save for hospitals which I have heard have these for obvious reasons.

What's a UPS? You need fuel also I guess?

Hah, I finally have a good use for the Macbook's keyboard lighting Smile

UPS=uninterruptible power supply. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterrupt...wer_supply . No fuel involved. It's usually just a battery that's integrated into your power bar.

Thanks! I guess they're using a "Diesel rotary uninterruptible power supply" here, although it does get interrupted, they manually start it off quickly after power goes down.
