I went to Karaoke today to find out from the staff that all karaoke UGA machines have been upgraded to measure the person's voice then give them a score at the end from 1-100. If you place in the top 3, your name is on display in all karaoke places in Japan. So you are basically competing against everyone in the country.

This whole ranking system is optional, so you don't have to do it, but I found it pretty cool. The jankara in my area said it was added yesterday.

That sounds cool.

Probably you know this, but if you want to have your own home karaoke party there are several karaoke games you can use for free. You can check some of them at this Wikipedia article.

Just think if they had global Street Fighter ranking across arcades back in the day.
