I decided to make this thread after reading through these threads from last year. This thread is for recommending, requesting and discussing sites and written material that relate to the visual arts specified in the title and are also in Japanese - though if you think it's REALLY good English material is okay too I guess.
As for myself: I've had a pretty hard time finding any drawing communities other than ones that are mostly focused on manga. While I do like manga, it's really not the kind of style I am personally going for, so does anyone have some good recommendations for sites that have stuff that come closer to realism? I'm not overly picky, I just want art in styles that aren't built on deforming humans etc but instead more or less maintain real life proportions and shadowing. Ideally I would like to find a Japanese equivalent to conceptart (NSFW, boobs in top banner; this is a specific link to one of the greatest art threads ever), or just, a thriving community with lots of discussion where members comment on each others' work while recommending different tutorials etc.
I've been browsing around a bit on pixiv (requires free registration) and even though most of it is manga-related I've recently found a lot of stuff that interested me through this guy's bookmarks, if you don't want to register at pixiv to get a peek at what he draws you can go directly to his site (slightly NSFW, drawn boobs). He's definitely an exception on pixiv though, as he himself points out - among other things, he's close to fifty years old while the average pixiv user would probably be somewhere around twenty.
I just found this homepage while doing google searches on things I thought of while writing this post, it's nice. It has some works from famous japanese (and western if you follow the links to the left) artists and descriptions of both the artists and specific drawings. I haven't looked at that many blogs so far but this art blog site is nice, it's easy to browse and not bloated with advertisements. I really liked the blog ranked as #3.
As I said earlier I don't draw much manga myself but 小畑健's style of drawing in his recent works (especially the ongoing バクマン) is definitely the one I like the most. Anyone interested in the old FF concept art should have a look at 天野喜孝 artbooks, I recently 'acquired' a few of them and they are gorgeous.
Please tag all links that contain nudity, even drawn nudity.
