Putty (the terminal app) Fork

#1
Was irritated with the way some things were rendering and some googling around led me to http://ice.hotmint.com/putty/d2ddw.html

This may be useful to some people here? It uses Direct2d rendering and looks absolutely gorgeous; additionally, if you're in vista/win7 it automatically uses consolas and meiryo as a linked pair. It's still very rough, if you want to use a different multibyte font you have to edit the ini manually because putty still doesn't recognize a lot of fonts for whatever reason. Some other stuff is just non functional or semi functional, but its all optional, core functionality seems to be completely in-tact. The website explains it all pretty well.

There are a number of other tweaks to make it extremely friendly for Japanese (or any CJK, really) users.

Even if you aren't, it's still incredibly readable. The font rendering is magnitudes better than putty's archaic default. The transparency also behaves on two levels, allowing settings similar to those you'd find in gnometerm and such where you've got opaque lettering and transparent background.

About the only thing I miss from PuttyTray are, well, the ability to minimize to tray and the clickable URLs. The latter being pretty annoying, as I use irssi for irc, but it is so much better looking that I may just live with the inconvenience. The author has URLs on his todo list as well, so, here's hoping?
