No sound in Anki

#1
Alright, I had this problem a while back but then I did RTK and had no need for it, but now I'm trying to use decks with audio and I need it. Whenever I get a card in a deck that just says "Listen", and then sound is supposed to play, I get nothing. Silence. I'm also 100% sure that the audio files are present in the Documents -> Anki folder, with the deck name + .media at the end. I can play the files from outside Anki and they work fine. But they do not play in Anki. If this isn't a bug in Anki, it sure as hell looks like one.

Sorry if there's something really stupid I'm doing and not realizing, but I'd rather look stupid and get this working than not get it working at all. Thanks in advance.

My audio files sometimes won't play in anki when I switch decks. I have to shut it down, restart it, and go into my deck - not sure if this is your deal (are you doing the RTK deck, then opening up a different deck?) but, that's all I got.

I fixed that problem with this: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?p...2#pid99802 (Using custom media player 2 plugin in Anki, with ZoomPlayer which comes with CCCP--Zoomplayer is set to close automatically after playing)

@OP - Fabrice prefers it if you post such questions at the Anki group.

I have sounds problems in Anki as well- if I start Anki and then plug in my headphones the sound cuts in and out. If I start it with headphones in and then take them out the same thing happens. That means I have to restart Anki every time I switch from headphones to speakers.

I'm on a Mac FWIW.

Yeah quirky -

The problem I described actually comes and goes - it did it for a while, then stopped, then started up again, and now it mysteriously works just fine....

I'm on a mac as well - not headphone problems though.

Speaking of anki... better get back to my reviews. Koohii is my 3 minute break from reps hehehe...

I did post in the Anki group, they were of pretty much zero help. Just said, "well, no one else has this problem so maybe it's an mplayer problem."

My audio files just do not play, ever. This is getting really frustrating, especially because it's becoming apparent I'm the only man on earth with this problem. Is all data for a deck contained in the .anki file? Because I want to reinstall, but not lose any data from my decks.

Oh, ignore this thread, close it, whatever. I uninstalled and reinstalled and everything works now. Sorry for being such a bitch, but maybe this'll be useful if someone else gets this problem: just uninstall and reinstall and it seems to be working.

Sorry to hear that - I know how it feels.

Where did you get the deck? Could it possibly be a problem with the Card Template?

Has anyone ever found a real solution to this problem? I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 and reinstalling Anki doesn't help. Sad I need sound to study the Core 2000.

I know this isn't the Anki forum, but I'm having the same issue and I did try a reinstall of Anki.

After downloading core2k and following the link to download the audio files (which I did and properly placed them in my .media folder), when I open the deck and start reviewing, I hear no audio.

When I click on one of the audio files to play by itself outside of Anki, the audio works.

Can anyone here tell me what I'm doing wrong?

*Edit: Issue fixed. Make sure your .media folder is named properly. Lol.
