It worked for me. I was never attacked while protected by my invisibility cloaking blanket.

This reminds me of that one scene in "The grudge" the boy appears underneath the blanket. Man, until that moment I thought beds are safe too...
Thank God I was not a kid when I watched that movie.

Ah, I see. In Japan it's quite common that little kids and parents sleep in the same futon or next to each other in the same room. If you google a little, you can find lots of threads and blog posts about until when you slept in the same futon. It's not very strange for a 7 year old to sleep in the same room/futon as his parents and/or parents.

This doesn't apply to the generation that grew up with the Grudge/Ju-On.

I don't know about that; I grew up with Freddy, who can get you when you're asleep, but I still felt like hiding under the covers worked. I was never really scared of monsters, though, I was always scared of burglars.

Same here! There was some commercial on tv for a security system, and it showed a burgler talking about how he was in a house while the family was sleeping. Freaked me the $^#% out!!!

this! it wasn't necessarily getting things stolen that would scare me. It was more about them all of a sudden realizing that I wasn't asleep and would shoot me!

Shooting would be too likely to alert neighbors and other people in the house. A burglar would probably just strangle you with your blanket.

This thread - otherwise - made me smile. I'm not sure if it's because kid reasoning is adorably funny or if we humans just enjoy scaring ourselves for some mysterious reason.
