Ah, thanks for that, I suspected that some of these things have easy solutions. Unfortunately, right click is not an option on a Mac as the mouse has only one button and using Click+Command or Control didn't seem to do much.

It is clear that a lot of effort continues to go into the development of this application and I'm sure it will grow to become something very remarkable. And maybe some day it will be worth investing into redoing the design to make it more Apple-like: this in itself will raise Anki's appeal to the Apple user community by a factor of thousand.

As an aside, official Mac mice do have two buttons now. Or you can use your own 2 button mouse.

But, why would making it look more 'Apple-like' make it more appealing? Are all Apple users so shallow that they'll choose something over how it looks instead of how good a job it does...

Furthermore, I have now spent more time playing with Anki. I have discovered a way to delete cards (indeed, a combination of Control + mouse - didn't work yesterday). I have also discovered some ways to customise the interface to make it far less cluttered. It's not all bad. :-) The other thing that irritates me is the 5 answer options where I just want ?????. But I'm sure there is an option to switch that off.

More importantly, autogeneration of pinyin or kana still doesn't work.

I want to study anki whilst at work but the problem is the pc is locked so that only the IT dept. can alter options and the IME is not installed. Can i simply email myself a Japanese font and install it in the fonts directory (provided that it is accessible).. will that permit me to read. I don't need to write just read? Is there any other work around? Can i perhaps put the font and the program on a zip and run it from there?

As for making the program look good I think it looks great as it is. Is the mac version different than the pc one? I agree making anything prettier usually makes it more fun to use PROVIDING that its already functional. I mean a turd's a turd, no matter what you decorate it in.

Is there a way to display tags on my cards? In my deck I have a card tagged "Lesson 4, Vocabulary, Nouns" with the meaning "person" and expression "ひと" and then I have another card tagged "Lesson 4, Kanji" with the meaning "person" and expression "人." When doing recognition it would be really nice if I could have the tags display on the cards somewhere so I could know which I should be answering.

I suppose it would be more useful in the case of cards that I have tagged "U-verbs" or "Ru-verbs" so that I could easily see which kind of verb I am studying.

Tags would be a lot more useful if they could be displayed on the cards.

It would be nice if there is some method that help learnig kanji.

I think that upcoming colour sopport is good. Because then we can make all kanji what we wanna learn in different colour. But is it possible make list of kanji (like .txt list) what we wanna make different colour? Or need our still make all kanji show different colour at one by one?


And someone mentioned that hide the furigana. I think it would be nice to hide the furigana all kanji which we trying to learn. But I think that would be really hard to make? :/

On anki, what is the difference in the sample decks? There is a JLPT 4 sample deck with 318 cards and one with 656. What is the difference? Which should I use? Where can I find more info on the sample decks?

Sorry, maybe I should have been more clear... I understand the difference between the different levels in the JLPT test. My question is for the sample decks on Anki.
When I click on New Deck, and go to "Sample Decks" there are a number of sample decks available. Is there a place that explains more in detail what is on these decks? I can go to edit deck and look at each card and try to compare them that way, but I was hoping someone wrote a little discription on the sample decks available. Specifically, there are a number of decks available for the JLPT 4 test (eg. JLPT 4 furigana only, JLPT4 [318 cards], and JLPT [656 cards]). What is the difference between these sample decks?

The 3 sample decks that came with my anki are:

JLPT2 657 words
JLPT3+4 411 words
JLPT4 318 words

I think there is some overlap between the decks, but in general the difference is just the difficulty of the words.

The 'furigana only' deck is from a previous Anki version. It's not shipped with the latest.

The JLPT decks contain a subsection of the various test levels. The edict definitions are too obtuse, so I grabbed various words out of my personal deck based on the level. Quality of the descriptions varies, but they're usually more succinct than something extracted from edict.

PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! This is mostly directed at Resolve, thanks a lot in advance.

My anki recently stopped letting me save progress in my decks. It shows an error message which says something about the filepath, but there is also mojibake because I am running Windows Vista 日本語版. I suspect that something may have been corrupted, as today I did some registry and drive defragging, but I did a full system restore and it did not fix the problem. A reinstall did not work either. This is extremely bothersome.

Resolve, I sent you the two decks I've been using, and if you can find a problem, could you please fix them and send it back to me? I am eager to begin studying again.
