Nope, no errors. I don't think there is any Japanese in my username, and none in the image name either.

Here are some issues I'm experiencing:
1. When creating a model called "other" and trying to create a reading field with "reading source" and "reading destination" labled is the special characteristic fields. like the Japan model, it is not creating kana conversions. Not sure if we can create these or are meant to only use the Japanese model.
2. Importing an image using the palette symbol (using a .jpg file) only shows a paper icon.
3. Importing a sound (.mp3 in this case) rapidly plays it that it sounds like a chipmonk.
4. Not an issue, but using the following seems to works if you want to mass import sound files [sound:JP%(text:ID Number)s.mp3] into the display cards, so I wondered if image files could be imported in a similar fashion.
5. With the above, do you think that your program can find files directly or must they be copied into a media file?
Oh, and 0.3.4 works on my system.

JimmySeal&Nukemarine: when you get the 'broken icon' image, is the image correctly being copied into the media directory?
Nukemarine:
1. put 'japanese' in the model features.
3. the files are at a different sampling rate and the library is not able to resample. I use the same library for sound as mnemosyne does, so it should also suffer from this problem. For now, you can avoid the problem by upsampling your material.
4. images use standard html tags
5. the links to sound and images should be direct links to the images, without any full or relative pathname (since that would require rewriting the path every time we wish to present the image or sound). Please use the media directory, as it makes it easier to copy your deck to another computer, anyway.

1. No problem there.
2. Not sure here, as I'm not using the laptop (which mnemosyne works on), but my work's computer (mnemosyne will not load without admin approval). Not sure what you mean by upsampling.
4. Uhh, oh well, that's what you made the anki wiki help for. I should be able to figure it out. HTML coding is not my strong point, but wiki has useful info.
5. Not a problem. I put my images on my zip drive so it's no big whoop to copy over to the anki relative.

Speaking of which, 0.3.5 is out.
* Tag completion
* Beter due card/cumulative due card display (handle empty days)
* 'Add missing models' support in editor
* 'Delete fact' support in editor
* Fix jpeg support on win32
* Remember audio, picture and import directories
* Jpeg support is known to be broken on OSX, and is not fixed yet.
Windows users: could you confirm that jpeg support is working for you now?
Megaqwerty: looks like your online deck has a problem. Could you email me your local deck?
Nukemarine: 'upsampling' means converting from a lower sampling rate to a higher sampling rate. For example, if you have a sampling rate of 22khz, you need to convert it to 44khz.

I'm wondering if anyone here is using Anki for non-japanese studies?
2007-08-24, 2:35 pm
A number of my students use it to study English, and at least one person I know of uses it to study Chinese or Russian.

I've been using it also to learn various non-language related things, like the capitals of the world, or some ancient greek mythology. Works very well. Makes for relaxing pauses in between kanji memorization...

Hi Resolve, thought I'd try out the add image for you(XP Home). Here's the log:

Any progress on the deck I sent you to merge Heisig and flip for kanji first? I realize you must be crazy busy with all the updates recently. As for the story-merge, will have to wait until we can export again. Apparently the last export I did is missing tons of kanji for some reason. Anyway, at your convenience I can resend you my deck to include the current stats.
Thanks tons!

resolve, one bug report: for the auto reading fill in part, you are missing 今日(きょう)!
it enters it as こんにち which i think is also sometimes right, but usually きょう is what i want. could you add that to the dictionary or whatever you use to do the conversions?
thanks!

suffah Wrote:I'm wondering if anyone here is using Anki for non-japanese studies?I'm a law student; I'm using Anki to study law.
My course requires that I read and memorize a whole ton of cases per subject. Since I'm doing 4 core legal papers this semester, that means I've 4 Anki decks, i.e. one deck for each paper.
It does help.
(Plus I like Anki's beautiful interface, which offers a bit more to look at than the Spartan looks of Mnemosyne. And it's customizable too. For that matter, I use Cambria as the font for my legal studies. It is simply beautiful, and makes even reading legalese an enjoyable chore.)
I'm using the memorization tips offered on the Supermemo website as well; e.g. cloze deletion, and breaking up everything into the smallest possible mental portions. I also use tags to separate/cluster the tags into 'categories'. It's a great tool when needing to sort and organize the cards in my deck. (Although I must mention that the Edit Deck window can be a bit unwieldy at times.)

hey all. if i start using anki to study kanji and i use the heisig file that has all 2042 kanji, how should i modify the intervals so that the kanji i already know (around 1200) are pushed back further before I start onto the new kanji?

Yufina: when you synced, the sync didn't finish and it corrupted your deck. If you email me your deck, I'll fix it for you. In the future, I'll have to make it so it automatically reverts on sync failure.
Aikiboy: that's weird. Was one of the text entry widgets focused when you clicked the button? Re converting your deck, I emailed you a day or two about that. Do you still want me to proceed based on the deck you sent me, or have you made progress since then? If so, please send me a new deck.
skylarth: It's not worth updating the dictionary. In the future I'm going to move to a different library which has much more comprehensive dictionaries.
GoDo: Please see the new entry in the FAQ:

In the FAQ, it mentions that syncing a deck with one on the server merges the decks. Is there a way to delete the server deck entirely prior to syncing a new deck?
Downloading 3.5 right now, so tomorrow I'll check it out.
PS: Any word from Fabrice on if he'll set up on export feature on RTK so that we can upload data to Anki?

When syncing, you can choose a new name. If you want to delete the existing deck, login to the web interface first and delete it.

I just decided to run another test of Anki. After importing a small Mnemosyne deck, I noticed interesting data on the deck statistics page:

My deck contains 722 facts and 1442 cards, so I'm missing two cards. Is there anyway that I can detect those?

Hi Resolve,
"Was one of the text entry widgets focused when you clicked the button?"
I have no idea what that means, dude, sorry.
I double-checked my e-mail and found only two from you, the second of which is the first deck you converted for me and it's backwards, for me. I suppose it makes a heck of a lot more sense to do it that way as I could practice writing at the same time, but I'm used to it the other way around, kanji first. I'll try to get my deck up to speed and send to you tomorrow night.
FYI, have started writing kanji from the pc files on my keitai. Knocked-out a couple hundred at Mr. Donuts today.(BTW, free refills on Ice Cafe Aulait until the 31st. Enjoy!)Keitai studies-very handy!
Cheers!

Yufina: I have to fix that manually for you (it was probably an error from a previous version). Please email me your deck.
Aikiboy: it means was there a coloured border around a text field before you clicked the button? :-) I've found at least one case where the buttons weren't disabled properly and fixed that, so hopefully you shouldn't get those errors after the next Anki release.
I'll try and convert your deck quickly when you next send it to me.
