I'm wondering, is there an add-on or Greasemonkey script that lets you stick an 'add to bookmarks' link to any type of links on any webpages?

For example, if there's a site that's updated often and I end up bookmarking many things for later, a way to just left-click an 'add to bookmarks' link instead of right-clicking and adding to bookmarks. In the past I would simply open them all in new tabs, then add all the tabs to a single bookmark folder, but this takes up a surprising amount of memory and it seems unnecessary to open every link I want to bookmark.

Anyway, maybe I'm missing an easy solution? Maybe there's a shortcut to click on a link and add it to bookmarks without having to open a context menu or open the page? They have the ctrl-left click thing for opening in new tabs...

Just to make sure I'm not misunderstanding you... whenever you left-click a link, you want it to add a bookmark?
Unless I'm missing something here, how would you actually visit links then? o.o

That's exactly what I want, except 'add to bookmarks' instead of to that HandyTab thingy. z+left-click or something like what OptimizeGoogle does (it adds a 'Save' link to directly bookmark search result links). Even better would to be able to automate some of the bookmarking, so that I don't have to select the folder every time if it's an oft-used site/process*.

Also, that star in the URL is handy, but not so much if you don't want to open the URL, it would be cool to have an add-on that lets you see if links on a page have already been bookmarked**.

Do you use a bookmarks toolbar? If you have organised folders on your bookmarks toolbar you can just drag a link to the folder and it will add a bookmark. You can also make an inbox folder and drag unsorted links there for later perusal. I think this being so easy is the reason there is not a universal shortcut for this.

I wouldn't say that's why. There's little tools and suchlike created every day for much simpler things as part of a larger process. I'm pretty sure there's already a way, I just haven't found it. It's a bad habit of mine, but I digress.

At any rate, the way you describe is even slower than right-clicking and creating a bookmark, methinks. The fastest is to open new tabs and mass add them, but that consumes so much memory, opening all those sites just to bookmark them. Much easier to simply add a little hotkey, cut the time in half. "In half?" you might say, "But it only takes seconds!" Those seconds add up, I assure you.

Right now it seems HandyTabs or Read it Later are my best bets... in fact, Read it Later, perhaps I'll just start downloading sites instead of bookmarking them. ;p

Damn, am I beginning to reveal the ungodly amount of browsing/bookmarking I do? Nevermind, heh heh, I was exaggerating, yes, no need for a special tool. Moving on...

Edit: Okay, I used FoxReplace to change the links so that the 'sub' link is now the main link on the page, and between that and using keyboard shortcuts to Tab through links (changing 'focus') and ALT+Enter to save pages, that should work. Oooh, ALT+Left-click is even better!

Probably you could do something with Autohotkey or with some macro extension for Firefox.
