Sometimes I just come across words in drama that I'd probably
never find anywhere else. Sometimes funny. Sometimes strange.
But always 日本語っぽい。。。。:ー)
Anyways, I came across the word "ちょめちょめ" which can also be written as "xx"
"** or "○○". It's very similar to saying "*bleep* *bleep*" in English.
If you use your Japanese IME and type ちょめちょめ, it'll convert to "××".
From Jim Breen's WWWJDIC:
xx 【ちょめちょめ】 (n) (sometimes also **, ○○, etc.) (See 伏せ字) (m-sl) blankety-blank; bleep; used in place of sensitive word (often sexually related)
It's a way of censoring words you want to say (often with a sexual overtone).
In episode 9 of the Japanese TV drama "Walkin' Butterfly" at 6:43 mins into the episode, one of the characters notices that 2 people are acting a little strange and then says "あら!お二人、何かちょめちょめありましたか。"
It's basically saying "Hmmmm! Did you two have sex by any chance recently?" in a very nice way.
Maybe if other people can share any funny, strange, or interesting phrases they've come across in the wild and post it in this thread, that'd be great.
Thanks.
