Hi,
I just started using rikaisama again and noticed that the 21.0 epwing "fix" for linux breaks epwing support, at least for my arch installation. Epwing dictionaries that get added under 21.0+ only have ??? as their name and don't work. Epwing dictionaries that get added under 20.6 or lower have their proper Kanji names and work. When updating rikaisama to 21.0 the dictionaries added under 20.6 retain their proper names but don't work anymore.
I haven't looked into the details but under 20.6 epwing dictionaries work in combination with wine, from 21.0 onwards wine isn't used anymore.
Does anybody know what the problem might be?

I would like to open a bug report about this on sourceforge, but I can't register because the website replies with a internal system error when I try to sign up.

I'll add re-add Wine support in the next version in case the bundled linux executable doesn't work.

Sometimes I want to add a definition to anki but it's not the first one in the popup. How can I do that?

I have just uploaded version 22.0 of the Rikaisama Firefox extension.

Download version 22.0 via SourceForge

What's New?

● Merged code with rikaichan 2.09 baseline:
○ Now runs with E10S enabled (via compatibility layer for now).
○ Settings are now prefixed with "extensions.rikaisama".
Warning: You will need to re-enter your Rikaisama settings after installing this update!

● Added the about:config "extensions.rikaisama.epwingusewine" option for Linux users. Enable this if the native EPWING lookup executable doesn't work.

This question was already discussed in this thread (replies #642-643 and 652).
The solution proposed should work, except if you are using a Mac because of the ctrl-click system-wide hotkey.
Hope someone will finally fix this…

Download version 22.1 via SourceForge

What's New?

● In super-sticky mode, you may now ctrl-click or alt-click to show the popup. Apparently ctrl-click is a system-wide shortcut on Mac.

It works great with alt-click!
Thanks a lot.

Hello,

I am creating an EPWING dictionary just to show the keywords from RTK kanji (I will share it when it's completely done). However I have an issue with Rikaisama, it looks up for words and not for kanji and there is no way, as far as I know, to just look up for just the kanji in the EPWING dictionary

Maybe you can understand better what I mean with these screenshots:

The way Rikaisama works:

The way it should work to be able to look up only for kanji and not words in EPWING dictionaries:

Do you think you could add an option to make this possible?

It might be better if you just add the keywords to \chrome\rikaichan.jar\content\kanji.dat which is the kanji dictionary that rikaisama/rikaichan uses when performing kanji lookups.

But if so I would have to edit them one by one and that would take much more time than my approach that could take only a few minutes to generate the EPWING dictionary.

I have just uploaded version 22.2 of the Rikaisama Firefox extension.

Download version 22.2 via SourceForge

What's New?

● Updated eplkup to v1.5. Nothing new, just got rid of the Windows API dependencies.
Note: eplkup is the tool that powers the EPWING feature.

● Using a more compatible version of the OSX eplkup executable. (Contributed by Landon Epps, Thanks!).

● Linux eplkup executable is now 32-bit to increase compatibility.

● Added eplkup build instructions for Windows and Linux.

I hate to ask this again after it was discussed so many times, but I cannot get it to work.

I want to add, for example, the second definition of 着, ぎ and not ちゃく. If I press R when hovering the second definition's kanji, the first gets added. If I press R when hovering the second definition's kana, 儀 gets added. If I CTRL+Click the second definition, the same, identical popup appears, with the same identical behaviour.

What am I doing wrong?

I think that you are right: what you are trying to do does not seem to work.
What does work is, for instance, if you encounter the word 検索結果 and are interested only in 検索.
Rikaisama highlights the 4 characters (or the last two, depending on where you place the pointer), so you cannot directly get the popup for the word you are interested in. Using "super sticky mode" allows you to click on it (second entry) inside the popup opened by the first click.

If, on the other hand, one entry has two different definitions associated with it, I do not know how you can select anything but the first one.

Perhaps a feature request…

Thank you. Yes, such a feature would be really useful.

Am I the only one having issue with incorrect audio name when trying the save the Kana version of the vocab (i.e. using 'X' button to save)?

For example,

If I saw the word 首をかしげる and I saved it as Kana (pressed X) then rikai-sama will refer to media name as "[sound:くびをかしげる - くびをかしげる.mp3]" . But the actual audio file is saved as "くびをかしげる - 首をかしげる.mp3" in the media folder.

This can be an issue when trying to save the vocab when the Kanji form is uncommon.

What's New?

● Fixed bug with the "Audio file" save token when saving a word via the X key.

● The "Source URL" save token was renamed to "URL".

When I use an EPWING dictionary, after a while Rikaisama stops working.
The word continues to get highlighted but the blue window doesn't appear anymore, and I must restart the browser.
Sometimes it happens after a while, sometimes it happens after just a couple of checks with rikaisama.
Anyone had the same issue and know how to fix it?
Thank you in advance!

What version of Firefox are you using? What version of Rikaisama are you using? What operating system are you using? What dictionary are you using? Can you provide steps to reproduce the issue?

Thank you cb4960 for your interest!

Firefox 38.0.1 (I've seen just now that there is an upgrade available, I will try it and see if it fixes the issue EDIT: it's the last version)

Rikaisama 22.3

Windows Vista 64 bit

研究者新和英大辞典 第5版 (I will try with another compatible dictionary if I find one, and see if it gives the same issue)

There are no particular steps: I activate Rikaisama with the red-smile icon, then I put the mouse cursor over a word and it gives me a definition; then ad any random moment it stops working, it continues to underline the words where I put the mouse cursor, but it doesn't show the blue popup with the definition. Even if I deactivate and reactivate Rikaisama with the red-smile icon, it still doesn't work. The only solution is to close Firefox and reopen it :/

Thanks for the info! I'll try to see if I can reproduce this.

If this issue occurs again, can you please open the Browser Console (Ctrl-Alt-J), and check if there are any errors that look like they might be related to Rikaisama? Thanks.
