How to use subs2srs?

#1
What type of files do you need to use the subs2srs tool to create a deck from a movie? I have some episodes of Samurai Champloo with subtitles in .mp4 format. Is it possible to extract the files I need to use subs2srs from the mp4 files, and if so how?

Thanks

First post, go down to where it says "How To Use"

edit: to answer your question, if the subtitles are embedded on a file (probably like your mp4 file) then subs2srs can't help you. You'll need to find external subtitle files.

That depends on if its muxed into mp4 as a hard or softsub, I can't remember if mp4 supports softsubs.

Basically:

- Hardsub - Rendered directly onto the video itself, you can't get those out unless you do some sort of OCR/etc... Its much easier to just get an external subtitle files.

- Softsub - Muxed into the container, you'll just need some form/sort of container tool to extract the subtitle files then you should be good to go Smile

Japanese subtitles are hard to come by, but you can find some here: http://kitsunekko.net/

Also, you can use any language's timings to extract images from the dialogue, which will include the subtitles if they're hardsubbed, but they'll probably only work for the answer side of cards as the image itself will likely spoil everything about the sentence.
