Hello, I just wanted some advice on my next step.

I bought the first book from KO2001 a few months ago, in 2009, and really meant to get to it. However at some point I gave up and deleted my deck, and I'm not sure why. I know it wasn't burn-out or anything, but perhaps I wanted to focus on some other resources. Anyway, I really want to work on my kanji and get some sentences coming in, so KO2001 is simply a great tool for that. My problem is that I can't choose between the various methods; between NukeMarine's, just using the book, and similar methods.

I did try NukeMarine's uploaded Smart.FM lists for the sentences and vocab, but it did not import into Anki successfully. I lost a ton of sentences in the process. When I did try the book, I was frustrated by a few mistakes (why does this book even have mistakes?) and having to copy it slowly but surely.

I don't want this thread to drag on, so let me just simplify it. I'm looking for advice on how to take on KO2001, the first 555 kanji, in the best way. I don't want to mess around with spreadsheets, and maybe there's something I'm missing but the Smart.FM importer isn't always reliable.

Yeah I saw that and was thinking of using it, but you think I should not do Ko2001 in favor of doing Kore? If I do decide to use Kore, and I have read through that whole thread, I'm still a bit confused on how to actually set it up to start using it. Maybe I'm just stupid. I'm sure it's simple and I'm just not thinking straight right now.

Don't think of it as 'not doing 2001KO'. Think of it as 'using 2001KO to make Core better'. It's a hybrid of the 2 and improves on both of them.

Whether you do it in Smart.fm or Anki is your choice, but I tend to think that Anki is the better choice.

I thought that NukeMarine had posted his newest Anki deck based on that, but I don't see where he posted it. You might ask in that thread. That would be the easiest way to start.

I uploaded to Anki only the beginner deck which is a sorted Core Step 1 and 2. It's not too much to upload the Basic deck (sorted Core Steps 3 thru 10). To get it, just use "download" feature in Anki and look for Beginner Japanese Vocabulary. No need to bother with any spreadsheets.

TheVinster, there's no one way or one resource. The best resource is the one that's both useful and you actually use. If that means these structure resources like Core or KO2001 then use it. If it means just sentence mining dramas and anime and books you like, then use that. We're at the point that you're not limited by the resources anymore.

The best way is find an Anki deck. If you want to use 2001KO someone might e-mail you a deck or give you a download link. Core 2k6k is easier since it's free to publicly post lists from it. Either way, get the type that's sorted by Cangy's program. Another option is just learn vocabulary without the sentences which is also doable.
