I don't know if it's officially mentioned anywhere, but do you think the Kanji for Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid is 宮城 (like the prefecture) or some other, not so obvious kanji compound?
Anybody knows if there are Miyagis in Japan with other Kanji?
On wikipedia Japan he is just written in Katakana :-(

From Wikipedia's Mr Miyagi page :p
Kesuke Miyagi (宮城健介, Miyagi Kesuke?, also known as Mr. Miyagi) is a fictional karate master, played by Japanese-American actor Pat Morita (1932–2005), who mentors the characters Daniel LaRusso and Julie Pierce in the Karate Kid films. Morita earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the first film

From ENAMDICT:
Miyagi
宮儀 宮城 宮木 見矢木 三養基 味八木
I'm surprised that his character actually has kanji though, since it's a Hollywood production. I wonder if they are official or if whoever wrote the wiki article (or some fan page that was used as a source) just chose the most common characters for the name.

The Japanese Wikipedia article for the movie spells his name with katakana throughout. I think it's a pretty good bet that someone just assumed it was 宮城 at some point.

I think 宮木 is more common as a last name.
