Preamble:
--------------------------------------
Hi, I have been using a Axim x50v with ebpocket (as described here http://www.japaneselanguagetools.com/ ) and it has worked awesome. The problem is that I broke the touch screen on the device. I have tried to order new ones from eBay, but they are either for the wrong device or don't work. (Only 1 in 4 I have received has worked, and it was for the wrong device lol)
---------------------------------------
Right now I am using DS dictionary and it SUCKS compared to the x50v... That has pissed me off enough
, that I've decided to go with the new device, the problem is I'm having lots of trouble finding anything suitable....
Here is I want:
4.3" screen or bigger
800x480 resolution or bigger
Stylus input
Good Handwritten Kanji recognition
Ability to run ebwing dictionaries (and eijiro!)
The ability to turn on instantly (although I can wait 10s or so if it means getting a better device...)
These things are also important to me, but I'm willing to compromise if I have to:
good ebook reader
ability to run anki with sounds + pictures
Here are the candidates I found so far. (If there's any other, please let me know
(I realize the prices are in different currencies... but it's not important)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BenQ S6 $229 4.8"
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=4...omoid=1005
not instant on
runs winxp so pretty sure that you can install japanese handwriting input (although I found nothing specific about this device)
winxp needs a minimum resolution of 800x600 (this is only 800x480... so you need to do lots of scrolling and stuff). Not optimized for handheld.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SmartQ 5 4.3" $180(?)
SmartQ v5 $150(?)
They support wince 6.0. Windows mobile supports all the software I need (Japanese IME, ebpocket)... but not all Windows mobiles programs work on WinCE...
All have a version of ubuntu and android. Supposedly the android now is garbage. ubuntu is slow on this device, and am not sure what software is available for it (although there is probably a lot of good stuff...)
I assume these have instant on ability....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So.... that's as far as my research has got me. I so can't be 100% sure that other device can even do knaji recognition >,<
If anybody has any suggestions, or any more info about the devices are listed, it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Juniper
