Blind leading the blind?

Wow, that tone again.

See my post #74 above.

If you're a troll, keep trolling. You're having fun.
If you're interested in a discussion, change your tone and rise above the negative posts (mine included lol).

Quick English lesson - not personal - "Being a teacher for umpteen years doesn't mean one is a good one.

Personal - "Being a teacher for umpteen years doesn't mean you are a good one."

Write more clearly and people won't misinterpret you. Ask Magamo for advice - his English is better than yours.

That is NOT what you asked. And you're full of shit because you claim to have 10 years of experience teaching professionally, but never learned proper manners. You don't enter an established community and just blurt out "Does anyone here have any idea what they're doing?" That's common sense.

I need to follow my own advice lol

Yes, thank you for the etiquette lesson. I've now learned you can tell someone they're full of sh't if you explain why.

Do you really want to start correcting people's English now?

mc2mc Wrote:However, when people have personally said daff things about me, I've responded in kind.
Quick English lesson: "Daft" is the word you're looking for here.

If you reply by searching for a grammar mistake in my posts, then we'll know you're a troll for sure.

Ok, kazelee, you've had your fun. It's pretty obvious what this guy is here to do.

I didn't bother reading all three pages of this thread, so maybe someone brought this up already, but here's my reason for bookmarking these boards: resources! The collective knowledge of where to find nearly anything I want/need for my studies is staggering. I'm using Understanding Basic Japanese Grammar? NukeMarine has an excel doc with the sentences already typed up. I'm RtK-ing it? Everyone has posted stories/pics for help learning. I want to find music, podcasts, video, cool DS games, etc.? Everyone has posted links/reviews to their favorite stuff. That's why I read these boards sometimes. The collective effort to find/create engaging "stuff" has been phenomenal.

Regarding bickering on these boards concerning methods... I don't read those posts. I just watch an unholy amount of Japanese television. Smile

Yeah, let's all go to another thread. Maybe we can all go wish mezbup good luck on the KanKen test today!

No, apparently, it is not clear. I came here with some legitimate questions. I got answers. Maybe some feathers were ruffled; but I got answers whereas a simple 'hey guys. great site. Anyone here got any experience as a teacher/linguistics credentials/ yada yada yada' would probably have produced zero replies.

Did I set out to be abrasive? No.

Did I get flamed? Yes.

Did I respond to the flames. Yes. But in the beginning I tried to use some tact. Still flames. So less tact.

Did I want flames? No.

What did I want? People to think about methodology when they created shared exercise on 3rd party sites.

Not interested in such? No problem. Please just delete your posts - I'll delete mine - and hopefully what is left is a nice civil thread.

How's that?

Oh, ok. You came here acting like an leprechaun because you know it would piss people off and get them to respond to you. Mission accomplished, troll.

Is Obama a communist? I'm not saying he is; I'm just asking the questions. Catch my show at 11 on Fox News.

mc2mc: Please start a new thread. Restate your original question in a less abrasive manner. You will get thoughtful replies.

Duh... I haven't read the thousand threads here. I've stated repeatedly that I'm new here, and instead of pointing me towards some threads to show me how I'm barking up the wrong tree, you'd prefer to flame me. Perhaps I won't be recommending this forum to my friends, after all.
What? So now I'm flaming you?
You came here and basically said that you thought the methods we are using here are complete garbage and we don't know what we are doing. Then when you actually tell us what methods you disagree with, I merely pointed out that no one here is actually advocating the sorts of things that you are claiming, in fact, quite the opposite.
So because I pointed out that you are just building straw-man arguments, I'm flaming you? Ok, sure.

mc2mc Wrote:if you actually read my posts and helped steer a newbie towards some links for shared JLPT1 links, my, wouldn't we all be happier.
I've never taken JLPT1, so I don't have anything to tell you regarding it.
Most people seem to recommend using the Kanzen Master Books to study for JLPT. Maybe try that?

I think there's just a misunderstanding here. In North American English, it's perfectly fine to use "you" in an impersonal sense. The use of "one" here, while technically "correct" would come off as pedantic or mock-pedantic in North American English.

Edited for politeness.

Now if you're serious about getting a reply your original question, go back, start a new thread, and restate the original question in a less abrasive manner.

Interesting. That would a good lesson if I were writing some sort of paper... but we both know that. Wink

Perhaps you did take the post personally and that wasn't just another troll-like response. Either way...

*readies magic button*

This has gone way off track. Take people's advice, start a new thread, or sit back and chill a little.

Do you say that, fully knowing the environment you are posting in? These questions have been asked many times, and given many responses. This is a poor excuse.

Quote:Did I set out to be abrasive? No.
At the risk of sounding abrasive means "I'm about to be abrasive." So the answer would be yes.

Quote:Did I get flamed? Yes.
That's what usually happens when you are abrasive, even in "real life."

Quote:Did I respond to the flames. Yes. But in the beginning I tried to use some tact. Still flames. So less tact.

I find that hard to believe. You enter a forum with predominately self-taught individuals and immediately ask for credentials (with a location of somewhere no less). You then want information, but you'll only accept information from someone with credentials.

So why are you here? Seriously, ask yourself why.

You don't happen to study Hanzi as well do you?

mc2mc Wrote:Don't think moderators should be taking part in discussions.
For the record, kazelee was a regular member for a long time before becoming moderator. I don't know what's the "codex of the moderator" but I don't see any issue here with the moderator also enjoying his status as a regular member, and thus participating in discussions and posting his own opinions.

Believe it or not this board usually requires little moderation, so it would be rather impractical for kazelee to switch user accounts to moderate the odd topic. He closed this thread because it has derailed too much at this point. Not something to take too personally as flame wars always require two sides to continue "burning" Wink
