Rikai-chan-like way to read 100s of books with your iPhone

#1
In case you didn't know, Aozora has tons of books online for free.
Also, there happens to be the coolest app the Japanese have ever made, called 大辞林, which is essentially a huge encyclopedia about everything in Japan and it works like rikai-chan but with far more information and history on top of that.

Now here's the cool part. With an updated 大辞林 version, and a book reader program such as i文庫 or SkyBook, you can highlight words with your finger and it'll jump to 大辞林 and give you a definition (in Japanese, but if you're reading a Japanese book, you ought to be able to handle this) and you can jump right back to the same page and everything.

I managed to find 大辞林 and SkyBook ipa's online and it works great (i文庫 is far superior, but I can't find an updated enough version for it to work)

So now I can read a book on the go without having to carry a dictionary with me, or exit out of a program and look it up in a new program which is time consuming and requires you to type it in (assuming you can even read/remember it to begin with)

It almost seems like an insult to describe Daijirin as "a rikai-chan-like iphone app"... <_< Still, thanks for the tip. I've got Daijirin and iBunko, so hopefully they update it to work like this sometime soon. If not, I guess I'll look into SkyBook. Then, after I realize that everything on Aozora is still way beyond me, I can go back to struggling through books and comics designed for dumb children. Tongue

Well, iBunko works if you actually bought the program then you can update it. You need like 2.6+ probably

but here's a really cool trick about daijirin which maybe only I know
You can get inside your iPhone and edit the 著作権 page to what you want. I actually already have books stored inside it, along with pictures, more links to other pages I've made and everything. Only downfall is it doesn't remember where I last left off, so I end up having to break the books down into like 8 pieces so I don't have to scroll through 170 pages worth lol
