Cocaine has been the breakfast of champions for all the great writers.

After doing the work that has to be done in the other language, translate it into Japanese and post it on Lang-8 as a journal.

Paraphrasing Haruki Murakami in his book on running: to deal with something as unhealthy as being a writer and student of Japanese, it is necessary to be as healthy as possible.

Are you fit? I used to be primarily interested in strength training for my physical activity, and not much else. More and more, though, from both my experience and the science, I'm coming to believe that a solid aerobic base, good nutrition and other healthy habits are essential in keeping the mind nimble, especially when we have such great expectations of it. Something to think about, anyway.

Ridley,

For fitness I recommend CrossFit. It's something I started around the same time I started Japanese, and have taken some similar approaches toward both oddly enough. For health it covers 10 categories of general physical preparedness such as strength, endurance, agility, power, stamina, etc.

There's a Japanese version of the site also from an affiliate in Okinawa:
