Dope Japanese Hip-Hop

Since Japanese Hip-Hop doesn't get much love (often overshadowed by the whole J-POP craze among the masses), I'm in the process of building a library of Japanese Hip-Hop via a private blog. I wanted to create a spot where us learners of Japanese who use Japanese Hip-Hop frequently in our immersion environments can check out various artists in a convenient manner. If anyone is interested, just PM me for access.

I'm a HUGE hip hop head so its great to see other hip hop fans in Japanese.

My favorite song so far is Soul Scream's "黒い月の夜"

The Pete Rock style beat and smooth lyrics remind me of Black Moon's "I Gotcha Opin Remix"....great great track.

Can anyone translate the bridge/chorus: it sounds like "kuroi, kuroi, mak-kuroi..."

Thanks again
I'm absolutely not a hip hop head but this track is sweet! As are some of the other jazzy / downtempo? ones...

kuroi, kuroi, mak-kuroi.. is black, black, pitch black

晋平太: I WANNA BE A MAN/I CAN FLY The beat is from 2Pac's Dear Mama.

KEN THE 390 feat. TARO SOUL: Tokyo State Of Mind

SIMON: Super Fly feat.Jay'ed/SIMON SAYS

L-VOKAL: STEP UP feat.KREVA

L-VOKAL: 万歳 The music video is so strange. A Bug's Life meets urban Tokyo. I'm loving it.

This thread and KREVAs blog have just attached turbo-thrusters to my Japanese Hip-Hop addiction. I actually feel like I can go full immersion now - previously it was out of reach because I couldn't find a large enough quantity of Japanese music I actually like. ありがとうみんなさん!

Keep an eye on KREVA's blog, I'll be making some additions there over this week. I promise they are all excellent ;-)

(In fact, every CD on that blog is awesome)

The more I listen to SIMON, the more I like. The screwed/chopped beat in nestor's link was fire, and whoever said he had the same swagger american rappers have was right...that tough as nails cockiness totally comes through in his music.

(The beat I mention comes 1:35 minutes into the video, it starts with some whack r&b stuff...)

There is a track on Gagle's 3peat albume called "Listen"...does anyone know who the other rappers on that track are, especially the female? My ipod isn't showing any other artists listed.

KREVA's blog has the album Hero the S.Z. by Shakkazombie. That album has the original version of Tomoniyukou that can be heard on disc 2 of Black File the Bombrush Show.

God damn it's good.

Ok, so I'm going to tell you with 99% certainty, but I can't say it's 100% because I am basing it on the fact that I listen to a LOT of Japanese hip hop and can pick out artists easily.

So, the girl is Coma-Chi (1st verse), DABO is the second verse, the third verse is Hunger from Gagle, and the last verse is Mummy-D (Rhymester). I'm 100% percent about the last one (and Hunger) because in the part I skipped to to listen, he said his name, plus Mummy-D is my favorite artist with a distinct voice.

I thought the girl was Coma-CHI but couldn't be positive, and DABO is the one I was completely in the dark on. Thanks.

Having re-listened to this album a few times, there are a couple of truly outstanding tracks.

この手につかんだ真実 (track 12) is awesome, and so is 空を取り戻した日 (track 4).

Haven't stumbled across THA BLUE HERB before. Nice find. Digging the beats.

Here's something TOTALLY different:
YOU THE ROCK★: BANGIN SHAKE IT(HIP-HOP)

I don't know about if this is dope enough but the song is freaking hilarious.

YOU THE ROCK★ is crazy. He's used to be a Japanese Busta Rhymes, now a Japanese Lil Jon. lol But it's interesting to see though he changes with the times (seems to be influenced by southern hip-hop these days based on the video above), his craziness remains ever intact.
