With the never-ending stream of dope Japanese Hip-Hop coming out, does it bother any of you that most people's impression of Japanese Hip-Hop is Nujabes?

Like Nujabes is the only person in the entire country of Japan who does Hip-Hop.....even though he never works with any Japanese rappers.

It bothers me to no end.

I'm generally not a huge fan of rap, but I always liked HMK's more upbeat songs like this one: http://[video=youtube]https://www.youtub...H8[/video]

There's not a lot of rap like this, Japanese or not.

I think its more of exposure, Nujabes got his name out due to his works with the anime Samurai Champloo and with Western artists. I like some of Nujabes work, but i agree there is way more Japanese hip hop out there. I think that is the plus side of the internet, it allows people discover outsi de of what is exposed in the mainstream. This thread has helped me discover more Japanese rappers I didnt know about or didnt dig enough to find their old gems. The way I look at it is that if I find track ill, ill share with my friends (that i know will at least listen to it), then at least that is one more listener for that artist.

I bought the album NEXT by Ish-One on Itunes the other day.

He's a new rapper it seems and he's really talented.

But the album itself isn't very good, it has a bunch of "get-money get-money" type of tracks. I uploaded the best song from the album onto Youtube because it's really really good.

It's produced by the legendary I-Dea (pick up his albums too if you haven't already, one of the best producers).

If you're planning to buy it just realize that the rest of the album isn't really like this.

Yea, i get what you are saying about that album, not my type of album. That im home track is good. This is my first time hearing about I-dea, does he have any instrumental album or compilation of songs with various mcs on it that u would recommend? im actually starting to discover or rather notice the producers that make these beats. For instance, i thought inovader's work on the zeebra rhyme animal lp was fantastic. DJ Yas as well, i need to find that twigy al-khadir album (heard some tracks on youtube, just absolute fire). For that matter, cant find the dinary delta force album either, the whole duck down vibe i get from the tracks ive seen is amazing. Any other producers that are right now making crazy beats?

I-Dea has more than a few albums, plus he has produced some of Seeda's albums. Seeda's albums Green and Heaven are almost entirely produced by I-Dea.

I-Dea's own album "Self-Expression" is good too, but I don't think it's as good as Seeda's stuff.

As far as good producers right now, there's a lot. But to me, my favorite is Lostface.

This song is from Ryuzo's album Hazard, it's on Itunes, and the production is really really good. This guy really picks some awesome beats.

I love this beat, it sounds like something from Mobb Deep. You rarely hear a beat like this these days. This is from BCDMG's album Ordinary Life, most of the album is produced by Lostface, I-Dea, and Jashwon. You can find this on Itunes as well

This is from Ryuzo's album "Message", the entire album is produced by Lostface, there are some fire beats here. It's on Itunes as well.

I bought this a while back. Pretty sure there is still a link up for it on the good ol' j-urban blog, which by the way has been revived by a couple of users.

I got Rhymester "Respect" off the site KREVA mentioned, someone had the .flac version. The link should still work I believe. As for buying, Ive only seen it on itunes japan thus far.

The only Rhymester album I've heard is Pop Life, I didn't like it too much, I have a feeling their earlier stuff is a lot better.

I was the same way, concerning their recent stuff. I slept on them because of that. Then hearing Egotopia and Respect, their 2nd n 3rd albums respectively, and i was impressed. It might be because those 2 albums were indie (Respect was their last indie album before going major), so they sound more determined and hungry in my opinion. I still need to hear their first indie album.

@kurohachi. Buddha Brand's compilation, Shakkazombie and Rhymester albums should all be on the community blog. There's currently approximately 500 albums/eps uploaded on it since I started it a few years ago. Most of the links (the ones I uploaded which is the majority) should still be good as I have uploaded them to a private folder on my mediafire account. People upload the stuff they like, so that has helped weed out a lot of the bad stuff. You seem to be into more of the underground/90s hip-hop style. I have a tag for 90s hip-hop on the blog, so click it and start downloading when you can. If you don't have an invite, let me know.

On a side note, you should definitely check out the Akumyou (definitely this one) and Zoku Akumyou compilations. Strictly 90s underground hip-hop in Japanese.

Also recommend Yostukaido Nature. They have one album and a copule EPs.

@KREVA Yep, I requested reups for the Buddha Brand, Shakkazombie, and now the Yostukaido Nature (that track you linked was incredible) albums on the J-Urban site. Just waiting for the reups. I know in some earlier pages in this thread there was a mention of a private blog, but I thought it was the same. The J-Urban is the only one I'm aware of. I appreciate the invite.

In regards to the 90s hip hop, yep without a doubt that's my golden era. I'm a late 80s/90s kid, so I'm definitely partial to the sound of then. Oh yea, heck yea on the Naked Artz. After buying their EPs on iTunes (before I bought the album), I purchased the two Naked Artz tracks ("Yume" and "Naked Artz") off the Akumyou/Zoku Akumyou as well. I haven't heard a bad Naked Artz track. I wish they came out w/ a second album before they parted ways.

Come to think of it, I'm subscribed to your Youtube haha, a bulk of my Japanese hip hop youtube playlist has yours or IsGoSu's name attached to it. Thank you and everyone else on this thread for exposing me to more great Japanese hip hop.
