I don't know any good free guide like Tae Kim's, but there are many good non-free books that explain German grammar in a non-technical way. Take a look at these:
1. Schaum's Outline of German Grammar.
2. Langenscheidts Grammatiktafel Deutsch by Heinz F. Wendt (in German, but easy to understand)
You can get the digital versions for $10 both.

zazen666, was the site you'd posted before in your other thread that explained German grammar through fairy tales really technical or hard to understand? I only looked at it briefly, but it seemed pretty neat.

I strongly recommend you to do MT course. I know that he has a heavy accent, but don't let that get in the way of an amazing educational experience.
Watch this clip about a group of teenagers who deemed incapable of learning languages:
In less than one week, Michel Thomas taught them the amount of French it normally takes five years to acquire. He astounded the staff at the school.
Trust me. MT is amazing in every sense of the word!
I forgot to mention German Demystified. It's one of the best books in German grammar.
