Difference 'Transcend' and 'Surpass' English question

#1
First of all, hi, this is my first post. Thank you for letting me review the kanji without having to use paper flashcards.

Excuse me for asking this, but, could somebody tell me the difference between the keyword meanings of 'transcend' and 'surpass'. I am Dutch and my English is not up to par as it should be. I am having difficulties understanding subtle differences between the meanings.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi. I think of 'transcend' as becoming god like. Whereas 'surpass' makes me think of doing something really well.

Other people's stories might help. Also, if you aren't already, searching for words on sites likeJim Breen's WWWJDIC and ALC can help you get more of a feel for how the kanji are used.

Yeah 'transcend' is more ephemeral, as in "transcendental numbers" (such as pi and e), that go beyond the realm of ordinary numbers.
