My mind always gets rolling over things when I go through the Hesig book... as I'm rounding up to 190 Kanji here I passed over the primitive right before #185 字 that Hesig calls "House" 宀.
I'm not content to just roll over Hesig's book without cross referencing, I suppose I always like to know the readings of a character and other meanings even if I don't intend to memorize them all yet.... so I noticed that this element is ベン "the shaped crown" or if we call it be it's radical name ウかんむり (the ウ crown)... (U Kanmuri... or should I say "U Camry"... thanks Toyota! Heh heh...).
Now I come to think of other Japanese words that come to mind starting with the ウ sound and I think of うち (Uchi) or HOUSE!! Hey... and look at the Kanji for that one 家... it's got the bloody 宀・ウかんむり built into the damned thing!! Sweet!!!
Sorry if I'm getting over-excited here... but I just love it when things "snap" together like this. I just thought I would share a slice of my excitement with the rest of you all. Perhaps you can use it in some way or another to spark your own Kanji connections.
宀が大好き~!!
