JLPT is over!

#1
Woot, did level 2 this morning. That was an experience. It was right on par with what I was expecting. It's pretty 50/50 whether I passed or not but it was fun all the same Smile No big deal if I don't.

Kanji and Vocab section I did really well on.

Listening raped me.

Reading and Grammar was OK.

Gotta wait til the results are out now!

Auckland, NZ. We would have been the very first ones to sit the test due to where we are on the timeline.

How do they do that... Take a picture? Or just memorize it ? xD

They steal the test booklets, disqualifying themselves in the process.

Cheaters never win. Unless they get away with it...

Talking about cheating...

In my test room of about 60 candidates, almost 10 of them were cheating at a point or another. Among others, opening or browsing the question book before we were officially allowed to open it.

We had two people checking, but they did not do anything. Only one person got a yellow card from the boss who just walked on him with the booklet open. It did not stop other people to also cheat.

I had heard about such cheating, but not experienced it before.

It does really not feel fair at all...

PS: it was in the Northern Japanese country side (Fukushima University, 2kyu). And I don't think I passed.

Did the JLPT 3 this morning (Western Australia). I'm fairly certain I passed. When do we find out?

Looking at the book before they say go is not cheating. It's just not following directions. I don't know why someone would risk doing something so stupid right before the test, though.

If it makes you feel better, there's a good chance that if they had to take a peek beforehand, they probably didn't pass. Big Grin

Also, how do you manage to remember that screen name. Interesting.

There was no one cheating when I sat it. All we're pretty well behaved. Semi-surprising (although it shouldn't have been) that 85% of the people taking the JLPT were asian.

Just out of interest, how many people did the JLPT at Auckland? Just wondering, I might be doing it next year, if I'm good enough by then, and can find the time.

There was quite a few actually, sitting various levels. There was probably about 50 doing level 2.

I also did the level 2. The Kanji / Vocab section was a little harder than I expected. The Listening was bad basically cause I didn't do enough practice so I can't comment on its difficulty. The Reading / Grammar was as expected with time being the main factor. How are you supposed to read all that within the time!!! The fact that the person sitting in front of me seemed to finish the Reading / Grammar after about 15 minutes and the person behind me was given a yellow card in the listening put me off. I was convinced the guy was coming to give me a card so I missed one of the questions.

In short I don't think I passed!!!

As for cheating there was not much in the room I was in but in the other room people were starting ahead of time. There is not much you can do but considering time is a major factor for the reading I would have liked an extra 5 minutes too!

Next year maybe I will sit it back home so I can get the answers on the net before I sit the test!

I've never taken the JLPT and probably won't ever take it either... however I'm curious. Why would they steal the test booklets and put it online? Is the test the exact same for all people all over the world? I know the test is around the same time over the whole world, but if it's more than a day... I guess somebody could look up the questions for the test later?

Silly cheaters.

btw what's a yellow card?

I took JLPT 1

Vocabulary bad
Listening easy - good
Reading just OK
Grammar far worse than expected. Many answers I just chose the one that was part of kanzenmaster as the others had no idea of the meanings.

I dont expect to pass, what is worse I forgot my kanzen master 1kyuu copy in the test room!

I didn't know you could study during the breaks! I took my 2kyuu today in Osaka Keizai University, and threw my notes out when I was heading to the campus. Then, I get there, and every second there's not a test going on, a quarter of the other test-takers are reviewing material!

On the whole, I'm pretty sure I passed. The vocab was cake, and the grammar and listening were OK.

By the way, did anyone else laugh during the 2kyuu listening question about the monkey? I could barely take it seriously. Big Grin

Maybe because they know nothing's gonna happen to them? Looking through the test booklet before the exam begins is a yellow card, not a red one. In other words, even if you get caught, you won't be kicked out of the test or anything. You'd need to do one more similar silly thing.

I took 2nd level this morning in Kyoto. Listening was easy (as expected), but the rest of the test I was iffy on.

I just got back from a long day in Nishinomiya (between Kobe and Osaka). I also took 2kyuu, so here's my impressions:

Vocab/Kanji: Harder than I expected! I prepared using the Unicom 実力アップ book, SRSing all the sentences I didn't know, and it just didn't cover enough. IMO this year's Kanji and Vocab section was a little tougher than in years past.

Listening: I live and work in Japan, listening to Japanese by default everyday, so this was a cakewalk, with the exception of that question about the lady customer who wanted to see the guy who was in a meeting. WTF was up with that? And yes, Evangelo, I thought the monkey eating the onigiri was pretty self-indulgent for the test takers!

Reading/Grammar: Pleasantly surprised. I was able to understand the vast majority of what was in the passages and I answered most of the questions fairly certain that I was correct. Not as hard as the last few years have been. The Unicom 実力アップ book was great for this, although I didn't use it much. Should have SRSed more of it to make up for the 漢字・語彙 book's shortcomings. Grammar was a challenge at times; I honestly haven't put much thought into it so I can recognize but not produce very well on the finer points.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I passed; maybe not with as strong a score as I had hoped, but I'm looking forward to getting my results in the mail TWO AND A HALF MONTHS LATER (my friends who took TOEIC get their results within the week, and that has a speaking component!).

I was also surprised by the number of Chinese/East Asian people at the test as well. I'd say our demographics were spread about 95% Asian with the majority being young Chinese, and 5% western gaij.

Congrats all!

Yeah!, 1級 listening had dragon quest and Evangelion parts. (the dragon quest one was just insane, if I hadn't played dragon quest there is no way I would have been able to pick out and understand that vocab)

Taking more time for the test than is allowed isn't cheating? Because that's what it means to open the book early. You get extra time.

thats funny I expect something reversed.....

vocabulary OK-good I always do good....The question is do I do an average performance 75 pourcents or do I do really good 85 pourcents and above ...
listening : basically I screwed up 50 percent would be a good score
reading/gram : I think I did good thanks to my method I had 30 minute left for the last question (in my case the first problem due to my method) .
I have the feeling that I m getting worse and worse with the grammar but I still expect to do no less than 60 percents .
for reading...well I hope I have 75 pourcents or more ... I mean I DESERVE at least 75 pourcents ,come on kami sama.....

so if I get it it will be ぎりぎり.... up to how I really scored on lecture and how bad I bucked up listening.

N.B :a chinese friend gave me the link for the answer .... does somebody have a link for the questions sheet ?
EDIT OK I got both .... I think I ll put online something more "user friendly "or english speaking people...
