-try to format the cells COUNTLESS times (and yes, i did save it in utf8 format)
-i am not as computer savvy as i thought
-i read the directions but still don't know what im doing

What sort of errors? When?
I just copied and pasted stories. That way I avoided all the frustration of dealing with plugins and/or imports. You should also try to check on the anki forums. There might be a solution to your problem there as well.

thanks everyone but never mind. i just read the thread about not having your stories on the front of the card and i think it's a better idea. but ahhh, so many wasted hours...oh, well, you live and you learn.
thanks again. now i've got some reviewing to do!

-plug in: make sure it's checked as active. It'll ask for the text file with the spacing data on it. Ensure the RTK deck you're using has the correct terms for fields and only 1 card per fact (the RTK import can't handle multiple cards).
-cells: I used both MS and Open Spreadsheets to format the rows. I then copy and pasted to a word sheet which I found easier than saving as a text file via the SS program.
It must be in UTF-8, some word processors (ok, MS Wordpad) saves UTF as UTF-16.
About the story field, unless it's been changed since March, it used to not have spacers for kanji you did not enter stories for. So I manually add rows to make the stories match the kanji.
Oddly enough, all that work, and I don't even display (or enter) stories anymore. On the other hand, turned out when I put my version of RTK 1 and 3 on Anki (included info from Katsuo's spreadsheets), my stories were in the deck. Not sure if anyone benefited from that.
