If you want to look up specific sentence patterns (〜間に, 〜へと), 日本語表現文型辞典 on this page is useful (you need to register). The level is intermediate to advanced.
I like 日本語文型辞典. It's got reasonable brief explanations and lots of examples, and it's pretty comprehensive. It's generally the sentence-pattern-explanation sort of grammar. One curious omission is that as far as I can see it doesn't tackle は vs が at all ;-)
I recommend *against* the Kanzen Master JLPT grammar books (for this purpose) -- they're good as a summary list of JLPT grammar points, but no good for explanations of those points.
The niwa saburou is really nice. That guy is a genius. But it is really not very useful for learning, it is more for reflecting on the sentence patterns you know very well.
