Which Japanese Bible translation is the best for study?

lol, gah! You made me spray my monitor with lulz.

Well, I'm just proud no one allowed ahibba to trick them into insulting christianity. Tsk tsk, such petty manipulations.
:o suckkked in
Now I remember why I stayed away from this thread until now. I knew I'd read the whole damn thing.

This one ran around in a surprising amount of circles though. Jarvik- I really like your post along the lines of- why do religious people think their text/quotes have the same meaning/gravity to the non-religious/other religions. Using a religious text as proof for anything doesn't really prove anything. I was just thinking this morning, if the beauty and complexity of the modern world prove God's existence, isn't that contrary to faith, since faith means to believe in something without proof? Doesn't that mean you can either have faith, or believe that the world proves God's existence?

Bodhi- good quote from Buddha- thanks.

As for the interesting discussion surrounding the Trinity (which didn't become Chirstian doctrine until the First Council of Nicaea) how about this piece of scripture:

John 10:30: "I and the Father are one." (NIV) "I and my father are one." (KJV)

ahibba might find this an interesting read: http://www.gotquestions.org/New-World-Translation.html

... (it's honestly quite embarrassing that we can't be mature about it.)

(on the other hand, I have had a lot of fun trying to read Genesis, even though I am not religious. It's mostly that it's written in Japanese that is important, not that it's OH NO NOT THE BIBULLLLLL!!!!!

A passing thought: Someone should make a Noh play out of the Bible.)

OH NOH: THE BIBULLLLL

I think it has been done actually, although maybe it was kabuki.

At this stage, I think you should stop playing around, there's noh way this pertains to the drama at hand.

These verses do not support the trinity doctrine unless you think you this one support "quattuordecimity":

"That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one" John 17:21-22
There's really no point to this discussion. ahibba will not be convinced by anything, since the denial of the trinity is a core tenet of JW faith.

JW? Really? The tie/bicycle salespeople?? Hmm, my bad, and to think, I was about to break out the theory that ahibba was in fact Yonosa.
