Are there any alternatives to this source for pronunciation audio? I know smart.fm had an API that had this, but they've shut it down and taken the docs offline. The API seems like it might still be up, but I guess it's not supposed to be used anymore. I'm interested in audio which has a clearer (and hopefully open) license than this audio (which seems to not have any license information available).

I installed 'Audio Download' and 'Audio Download (extension)' but had no luck getting it to work with my deck (I vaguely intend to try with simpler cards but haven't yet.) They may work for you.
I also have a large (full?) set of the files downloaded and placed in my anki directories, but I've had no luck using field substitution to refer to a file (ie,
[sound:{{kana}} - {{kanji}}.mp3] doesn't work.)
I can write a file by hand (without browsing for it and selecting it, because Windows doesn't give me an accurate list) and if it exists it'll play.
Probably I have an unclosed brace in my card descriptions somewhere and everything will work for you.
I might just wait for Anki2 rather than have to figure it all out a second time, media seems really messy in the current Anki.
