Poll: Do you want a Japanese forum?

To make a sub forum, no. That is true.

My concern is simplicty on the one hand and the "health" of the forum on the other hand. It can be detrimental to a forum to have too many subdivisions. Right now we have 10. To be fair and to be honest with you, if we didn't have the RevTH sub forum temporarily taking space, I would experiment with the Japanese sub forum. But for the time being, and until RevTH coems out and the RevTH forum can move to its own home, I prefer to avoid creating too many sub forums that have little use.

I also fully agree with the idea of attracting native speakers... but I am a little doubtful about this scenario. What would they want to do here? In other words, what would be in it for them? Sites like lang8 offer a "reward" for time invested for both sides. I think I would get over my head to try to create an attractive forum/community for Japanese learning english. I'd love to, but that's beyond my means right now. Communities gather around something, even if they evolve and change. This community first gathered around the RevTK site, and by extension it became a central place for RTK because there just aren't many other places to discuss RTK (go figure). What would be the ignition for Japanese learners to gather around here?

By the way, the Japanese only topic was stickied only to make it more visible (hopefully..). It wasn't meant to discourage anybody to post new Japanese only topics.

As others have said, whether it is a subforum or a topic, I don't see how anyone here cvould complain about those. I don't remember anybody saying they did NOT want to see Japanese only topics.

There is a big difference between planning and doing. So long as you plan an idea it looks highly attractive and very promising. But then you see not much is happening.

A forum subdivision simply earns its space over time. The "Group Study" and "JLPT, Jobs & College in Japan" were not created in advance but have been made valuable by the existence of many related topics. The same could happen with a Japanese only sub forum.. Wink

Sorry, I wasn't very active on the boards for several months due to totally extraterrestrial project management @ the day job O_o .. and I didn't realize that we do have Japanese native members. I'm really pleased to hear that.

If there were a forum, I think people might be more inclined to use it. Also, it would be difficult to attract native speakers if there isn't a Japanese forum.

I'm getting a little offtopic, but this is somewhat related.

EDIT: Made a separate topic about the organization of the forum categories.

Perhaps this can go at the top of the Index page or somewhere conspicuous:

"Although topics and posts in the RevTK forums are commonly written in English, you are allowed to post in any language. Topics started in a language should generally be kept to that language out of consideration."

It's always been this way, but this way it's obvious to anyone.
