I just realised something...

I've nearly made 500 posts in a few months of posting here.

If I did 1 new kanji from RTK3 every time I made a post I would have been halfway through by now! I think I might start... it'd be kinda like getting something for nothing.

If I learnt 1 kanji for every irc line i wrote, I'd be the kanzen master with at least 150 000 kanji in my head

I think we're onto something.

This is why we need a Japanese forum. Why do talking about Japanese and it's study have to go against our study goals? *grumbles*

I spend a lot of time on here actually when I think about it. However, this forum has brought to me some of the best study tools/methods/habits/resources that i've come across so far! Time well spent.

If I had implemented the original post... i'd know like 5 more kanji by now.

Here was a thread that asked why some people still stay on RTK Forums.

Basically, RevTK is a very evil forum that lures you in with promises of learning how to learn the mystical "kanji" then slowly buries you in hundreds of civilized posts.

Escape while you still can.

The time I waste here is time I would not be spending studying Japanese. It is usually my break time that I might otherwise be using to watch political shows online.
I am not sure what purpose a Japanese forum would do. RTKers are mostly a beginners crowd. It would seem to die quickly from lack of users. When ready to start Japanese only rooms, it would maybe be wiser to join native forums on Japanese websites.

I second that. Who wants to read my crappy Japanese?

This site is my motivation, not just to learn kanji, but for learning anything related to Japanese. If I don't feel like doing my reps, I come here and get fired up, then go become productive. Big Grin

Perhaps we could have a forum for Japanese people learning English? Sort of like a.. uh forum exchange? That way you could practice your Japanese with natives on the forum, and vica versa.

It would essentially be a Japanese version of this forum, but the opposite way around. E.g using anki, the sentence method, etc to learn English. We could share resources, share tips on grammer, etc. If it was done right, it could extremely useful.

That way you wouldn't have to worry about reading mezbup's crappy Japanese Wink

Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere before but that is kind of what Lang-8 is. Though I've never used it because my Japanese is still horrible. You write something, then a Japanese person corrects or improves it. You then in return do the same to a Japanese person who has written something in English. I think the site is going to die due to lack of income though.

Yeah, I've used lang-8 before. True it would be a bit like lang-8, but there would be a much better sense of community. We could share subtitles for subs2srs, links to websites, anki decks, study techniques, etc, in a much better and more efficient way.

hey I take offence to that Tongue /trolling

Lang-8's a great resource but I like the forum exchange idea. Could be really good. But you'd have to put up with their Engrish and they'd have to put up with our 日本誤w
