What is wrong with my Japanese text display?

#1
I have been using windows 7 and for some reason some of the kanji are messed up? Its been annoying me for a while.

For example:

the kanji for the keyword fed up looks like this 倦. On your computer you are probably seeing a snake primitive at the bottom, but i see the primitive for fingerprint. It happens in different ways with some other kanji.

Any idea how to fix this?

Change your font. Maybe you accidentally use a Chinese font. Also starting with Windows Vista (that includes Windows 7) most Japanese fonts included in Windows follow a newer standard, so they might display a different variant for some characters. Get the older Windows XP fonts or install some other program like Adobe Acrobat Reader with Japanese/Asian Language Pack to get "better" fonts.

The new fonts are the "better fonts" since they follow the new JIS standard.
Different from the book != worse. One should learn both variants though.

Oh I had no idea. Just making sure what I was looking at was normal and not some messed up windows issue.

Or visit the Japanese page of my website and choose a font you like.

Hi, i have the same "problem".

I use Windows XP (but i made all Windows updates, so that might have caused it).
