1. If you jailbreak it and use anki-mini then I think you can, but not without.
2. The Touch is the cheapest unless you also want a new phone with data plan in which case I think the iPhone itself is cheaper (the phone plan costs a lot).

There are other flashcard apps available so you don't have to jailbreak, but this means you can't use anki. I don't know anything about them though, because I have never used them.

I thought I read one there that the is a Japanese dictionary app that has an SRS repetition deck built into it. Just search through the app store, even if you don't have an ipod. Plus it also shows you what other apps are available for all sorts of things.

I believe that app just let you bookmark edict entries to study. SRS or not, I classify that as useless. It's also proprietary so you're locked into using that app forever.

The speed increase isn't really worth worrying about unless you intend on playing games. While I love my iPhone, a touch screen will never be a good gaming interface and virtually everything on the AppStore is complete crap.
Oh, and the ipt3 jailbreak isn't emminent. Appulohail is almost guaranteed to be fake/a joke. Geohot dropped support for ipt3 for now due to tethering problems.

Hmm good call. It was a fake. Looks like getting a 2g ipod or 3gs iphone is the way to go if you want to buy soonish.

SCP, WebDAV, AFP, SMB, any other protocol you wish to install a server for, special ipod touch mounting utilities, etc.
Personally I use SCP and occasionally AFP.
