Smart.fm Importer Quick Question

#1
Hi All,

I am going through the Core2K lists on Smart.fm and my current method is to study a list via smart.fm until it is about 50% done and then import it into Anki and start doing pure reading without any sound. I do this mostly because I feel like the 50%-100% stretch on smart.fm is a bit drawn out, and also to help grow my cumulative knowledge sentence deck in Anki.

However, at this point my deck is getting pretty large and when I use the smart.fm importer plugin I tend to get around ~350 sentences per Core2K list, instead of the expected 200. The 200 that are prompted within each list are there, but there's an additional ~150 items that usually come along. I know the more the better, but in the interest of trying to get through the lists quickly I have the follow question: How does one import only the Core2K items that are presented within each lesson (without hand-selecting the 200 out of the entire import... Which would be tedious).

Thanks for any suggestions!

Why would you not want to practice your listening skills as well? Sentences without audio are easy to find.
I rarely do iknow any more. I go straight to the sentence page of a list and listen to, then read the sentences.
They are about to re-vamp the site again in a few weeks so not sure what smart.fm will look like come November. http://smart.fm/blog/en/2009/10/5/180583...f-smart-fm

I thought they fixed that problem a while ago. Have you downloaded the latest version of the importer?

@bodhisamaya: I also like to keep the sound out of my main deck. It's too distracting. I have a separate deck for audio practice.

@bodhisamay: I didn't go into the details of my review, but I DO have audio, I just play it _after_ I do the reading. As it stands now, smart.fm prompts you with a keyword, you select the proper translation, and then the full sentence and audio are presented simultaneously. I think this really puts a ding in your kanji-reading ability. Right now I'm focusing on becoming literate as fast as possible, as I've finished RtK I'm trying to force myself to do as much reading as possible. I've noticed that with audio playing while I read I definitely recognize the various words and think I know how to read them, but if I am prompted blindly with just a sentence I really don't do as well as I thought. So I practice until 50% to basically get all the sentences, their rhythm and what not down and memorized, and then take it to Anki where I change my deck setup such that I get the reading sentence only, try to read, and then when I am prompted with the answer I get the translation and the Japanese audio plays for secondary confirmation. I think it works pretty well, or at least I enjoy it enough to keep doing it this way.

@codexus: I'll check the version, thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I'm doing this too. I think it goes beyond the "100%" on smart.fm to more like real life.

I'm looking to transfer all smart.fm CORE 2000 stuff to Anki cos i feel smart.fm is not suitable for long term plus I just wanna have it all in one SRS system, i.e. Anki. I'd prefer to hear the audio after the reading as well for the same reasons as stated above.

there are a couple of downloadable decks via Anki but as people are doing the tranferring themselves I was wondering if there's something wrong with these?

I'm also looking to do KO in its completion with Anki and was wondering what the best way to go about this was. Smart.fm lists by nukemarine et al via plugin into Anki?

Dont forget the proper KO deck with full audio Smile A search should turn up where to find it. I just finished with it and it was great.

Are you referring to the one that was offered via a different site in the thread with the heated argument?
