iPod touch and Japanese keyboard

#1
I recently bought an new 3rd generation ipod touch and the 大辞林 dictionary app. I love the ipod and the dictionary is great. My problem, however, is with the ipod's japanese keyboard. Any time I try to type a word beginning with characters such as あ、い、う、か、and さ, whatever app I'm in immediately crashes.

I've seen a few people discussing using their ipods for things like this, but i can't find any mention of anybody else having an issue like this.

If anybody's seen this happen or has any idea of a solution your help would be appreciated

(for the record, i've tried all of the normal troubleshooting steps for ipods up to and including wiping it clean and restoring the device to factory settings.)

Never had such an issue. Have you tried both the full keyboard and the ten-key keyboard?

What firmware is it running? That's the only thing I can think of. I have an Iphone running 2.2 firmware and I have no problems using the Japanese keyboard at all.

Is there an option to type in romaji to search? I used to be a stickler and only use the hiragana keyboard but now I don't really care. It's the word i'm looking for, not the input method.
