OK, let's meet at the McDonalds. I'm pretty sure it's out of the East exit of the station. I am certain that it is the same exit as where the busses stop. Leave the station and took toward your left just beyond the bus stop area. There is a big, red Japanese tori gate. The McDonald's is just to the left of it facing the bus area.
There are several izakayas (Japanese pubs: reside, sake, roof) nearby. They will have Japanese and western style food and plenty of beer.
Guppy: It would be great if you could make it. Do you have a cell phone? You could call me when you arrive in Kamakura and we could send a runner to McD's to pick you up. That way you would not have to rush.
taijuando: There is an information center manned with an English speaker just outside the East exit of Kamakura station (again, I think it's east. I know it's busses. Look for the busses. Go toward the busses. Busses will lead the way.). They have maps and stuff. Kamakura is a great place, enjoy!
I'm a six foot white guy with blue eyes and light brown hair. I'll wear a blue hawaiian shirt.
See you guys 6:00-6:30 (whenever for guppy), Thursday, July 13, McDonalds at the East exit of Kamakura station.

I've arranged to meet some other people on the 13th and Kamakura is quite a trip for me so unfortunately I won't be able to make it. I hope you have a great time. If you feel like doing anything in Tokyo then let me know.

Too bad you can't make it. Since wrightak, guppy, and myself live in Japan maybe we could schedule a separate meetup for Japan residents. We could meet at a more central location like Tokyo or Yokohama and take the time to rope more people in.
Also, is there anyone else besides myself, the marshal, taijunado, and guppy who are planning on meeting us in Kamakura?

For me, any other meeting would have to be pretty quick since I'm leaving Japan on the 31st.

Thanks to Wakela, the Kamakura get together went off well. Kamakura is a great place to visit, with the most incredible temples I have ever seen. The Marshal and Guppy were there. There is something to meeting people in the flesh and getting info, kanji-inspiration, and just getting to know folks. I may have missed a day of kanji review but it was worth it.
I will be in Lexington KY August 23-30 on the off chance a few folks want to get together. There is already talk of doing something in New York in September. Gambatte!

The meeting was great. I am replying a bit late because I was visiting a lot and tokyo and I just went to the hotel to sleep, didn-t really check the forum too much.
I arrived today at the language school in okazaki where I am staying for 6weeks. I-ll really have to boost my japanese level now !!
Somebody could maybe post the picture of the meeting if nobody mind. I personnaly have an old camera so I can-t easily post them...
We talked about a lot of thing during the meeting, from heisig to Japanese/Japan in general, and other topic... just great actually meet the people that are on the forum.
I-ll have to look a bit around the students accomodation now... looks like there is working wifi at least !

How about some kanji y'all. I'm going to be in Lexington Kentucky and I thought I'd see if there were any kentucky or thereabout kanji students. I will be there August 23rd through the 30th. Maybe we could get together at a Japanese restaurant or Common Grounds. I might go camping on the weekend so a weekday might be better. Looking at Fuaburisu's map, I'm not sure there will be many takers but my meeting with Wakela, Guppy, and the-marshal was inspirational so I thought I'd try. A fun bunch of folks.

Hey, all! I was vacationing in the UK during all this meeting, but I'm back in Tokyo now.
Guppy, Wakela: I'm on the northwest side of Tokyo, in Higashi Kurume (just outside Nerima-ku). Would love to get together for coffee or a meal. Kamakura is wonderful, and I have often taken visitors there. Fabrice, do let us know if you manage to get here before year's end. It would be great to meet you.
It would be fun to meet any of you. Drop a line!

Scooter or anyone else for that matter,
That would be great. Unfortunately, I'm in crisis study mode until after the JLPT (which is the first weekend of December). Anytime after that I'm all for it.
Any takers?

Yeah, I'd be up for a meet, although I agree that after the test is probably best.. still got plenty of grammar points to work over..

Guppy, Christoph, anyone: After the first weekend in December is good for me. We can celebrate your writing of the JLPT.
Anyone else around here or arriving by then--join us! Stay tuned for time and place details. (By the way, Guppy, where are you?)

I'm down in Zushi. So, it's quite easy for me to get to Kamakura. However,
if we meet somewhere else, which I don't mind, it'll definately have to be a weekend.
It's a little hike to get up your way...
I'm looking forward to this, gotta just get through this test!

I was thinking weekend, too. I've not been to Kamakura in a while, and if Christoph joins us, it won't be far for him. Let's plan it!
In the meantime, gambatteyo!

Hey, folks!
This thread was somewhat paused until the JLPT happened, but it's over! (Have you yet received your results?) So, how about a get-together? I'm still willing to go to Kamakura since it seemed to be closer to a few of you. Want to meet for lunch or dinner some Saturday?
