What's your writng style? Quick and Dirty or Slow and Pretty?

#1
I found it funny how my handwriting in Japanese is the same as my English handwriting. I can write kanji superfast at a just barely readable level. I have showed my handwriting to natives many times and they say its legible but soo fast and messy haha.

Whats your handwriting like?

Mine is also like my english handwriting: Barely readable at any speed.

Kanjis written at average speed (neither too fast nor too slow) but really more readable than my english handwriting. Maybe it's due to the fact that I type on the keyboard all day long and kanjis don't require too much "loops" like other languages.

Dirty as hell. When I'm reviewing I just want to do it asap (since I do it during my lunch break), also the fact I will probably never really have to write much in Japanese on paper, mostly emails, hostel bookings, etc. are done on a computer. However, I do appreciate caligraphy and would like to improve my writing style purely for asthetic purposes.

Quick and dirty for me, but my 先生 has commented that I write well... which confuses me because I think my handwriting is terrible. I do try to improve my writing by writing stuff out a lot sometimes, but doesn't seem to have that much of an effect.

Very readable and uniform. Takes longer of course but my writing in English is like that too(I use cursive)

Still, if I'm just practicing or studying its a mess.

Like my English writing, somewhat sloppy but readable. Maybe the odd character that someone else might not make out(I don't know, no one reads my Japanese).
The difference, I guess, is that my English looks childish but I don't think my Japanese does.

In general I think my Japanese writing is significantly better than my English, though part of that may simply be the fact that I'm forced to slow down due to not being as familiar with writing vertically.

well my english and japanese handwriting are both messy/sloppy/lazy but the japanese is just more readable-do-able even with all the messiness b.c. the kanji has a lot of characters compared to letters that pretty much look discernible with mywriting half the time.
I feel so lazy/annoyed writing english b.c. i have to write with some care for it to be legible but for japanese I can just as lazy but sitll ledgible.

I try not to write. That's what computers and cell phones are for. Wink

I'm confused now, should I write the kanjis when I'm reviewing? I just write them in the air with my pen...

IMO writing when reviewing is nice for the practice of the mechanical act of writing the kanji, but is optional overall.

That's fine if you're tight on ink, otherwise if you write it down then you can actually see how your mangled little kanji looks.

I handwrite English like a 4 year-old and have gotten by, so I concluded that I obviously am not interested in penmanship, but my kanji are suprisingly better than my English writing.

The same for me actually. Barely anyone but (sometimes) me can read my regular writings.
My kanji seems to be at least sort of readable though. Wonder why something I've just learned is prettier then something I've frequently used during my life.

My kanji looks pretty nice and it gets a lot of compliments. My かな on the other hand...

haha yeah reminds me of how i can write over 2,000 kanji pretty easily but the kanji for 七 (なな・しち) still screws me up.

I try to make it quick and pretty.

My かな used to be crappy all the time, but my Kanji used to be print-quality when I first started out. That's because I was writing them very slowly and precisely. The more Kanji I learn, the more quick 'n' dirty it gets: The radicals get simplified down to rough shapes, you just don't have time to focus on every single detail. Wink

ya what the hell, my kanji look great by I still can't really get a さ to end satisfactorily... the movement still feels unnatural, can't we just create a replacement character?
