Um.. I just recently started learning kanji, but I am already ahead on the talking japanese part. is there a good way to learn the words to the kanji...bc it's hard to email my friends when i don't know the appropriate kanji when typing. if someone could help me with this, that'd be tottemo sugoi!

There is no easy answer.
Assuming you are using Microsoft IME:
1) Type hiragana.
2) Press space twice.
3) If you see kanji for that word, then select it using up/down arrow keys and enter.
4) If you don't see the kanji, just use hiragana. Press escape and then enter.
You just have to know which kanji to use.
